Week Fifteen

March 6, 2015 by Aliesha

pregnancy week 15

Thought I’d share a little pregnancy update with you guys since I’m now in the SECOND TRIMESTER, baby!!

As you can see, I definitely have a baby bump now (it’s more obvious in person than in this picture), and it’s comforting to know that Baby Apricot is growing and developing!  He or she is now the size of a small apple.  Even at this small size, Apricot can bend all his or her joints and limbs, and can sense light.

I’m feeling good overall and thankful that the season of nausea has passed!  There are still some foods I’m not crazy about, but for the most part I feel great.  My energy levels are higher than they were in the first trimester, but I still try to sneak in a power nap several times a week.  I keep telling people that I’m not sure if the tiredness I feel is from my “big” kids or from the pregnancy!

Something we’re on the fence about right now… should we find out this baby’s gender before the birth or not?  We found out with the other three. We have two fall birthdays already (Vera and Jude), so we have plenty of seasonally appropriate clothing of each gender. One of us is on Team Wait to Find Out, and the other is on Team Find Out ASAP. The ultrasound appointment isn’t for a few more weeks, so we still have time to debate… I mean discuss… the issue!  What do you think?

The Reality of Life Right Now

February 3, 2015 by Aliesha

DSC_0713copysmI feel so blessed right now to be carrying another baby… don’t get me wrong. I also feel grateful that my morning sickness has not been “severe” as what some women deal with, and has mostly been relegated to the late afternoons/evenings, and anytime I’ve gone too long without eating.

But the truth is, this is a stretching season for me. I told my life group (church small group) last week that I need a lot of grace and a lot of prayers right now!  I am delighted to be home with my children each day, watching them learn and teaching them truths about God.  Caring for Vera (4.5), Cordelia (almost 3), and Jude (16 months) is challenging enough, but to be tired and sick makes it even more so.

I am pressing into God’s Word each morning and starting my day with prayers for strength, joy, and grace.  I’m having to let go of some expectations I normally have for myself, and blogging is one of the things that is on the back burner right now.  I have lots of ideas for posts to write, but I’m choosing to rest in the afternoons instead of write.  I’m using all of my energy just to keep the house relatively neat, my children dressed and read to, and my family fed (Tad’s been making dinner most nights).

I keep reminding myself that this is just a season.  I won’t be sick forever.  In fact, I’m starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel.  I know so many women who would trade places with me in a second, so that helps me maintain a grateful heart.

I will be back to blogging on a more regular basis soon, I’m sure, but until then, I wanted you to know why I haven’t been around much.

If you’re also in a challenging season, know that God’s grace is available to you too!

“But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’
Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”
-2 Corinthians 12:9

Family Announcement!

January 20, 2015 by Aliesha

On Saturday morning, we gathered the kids onto the couch for an exciting family announcement!

(Sorry for the weird lighting that covers my face!)

We were just tickled with their response!

We are so thankful to God for the precious new life that is growing inside me!  We feel doubly blessed that this baby is healthy, since we actually had a miscarriage in November.

It was so beautiful to see/hear a strong heartbeat on Friday at my appointment.

Expected arrival of this new baby is early September, and I’m 8 weeks along right now.

(If you’re currently struggling with not being able to get pregnant or have recently suffered a loss, please know that my heart goes out to you. I wrote this post last time around, but I still feel everything in it!)

In the picture above, baby is head down, bottom up!

Later in the day on Saturday, Vera came up to me and said, “Mommy, I prayed that God would give us a new baby!” (So sweet, right?)

And still later, Cordelia came running into my room and yelled, “MOMMY! Have you had the baby yet?!”

While Tad was out at the grocery store that afternoon, I heard the girls discussing where he was.
“He went out to get the new baby,” explained CC to Vera.

Grateful for my silly girls who keep me laughing, and my incredibly supportive husband who is keeping the house running while I’m sick!
