Sparest of Spare Rooms

September 2, 2011 by Aliesha

The name of our guest room comes from Anne of Green Gables, when Aunt Josephine tells Anne, “If you come to town for a visit, I will put you up in my very sparest of spare rooms.”

I’ve been getting our spare room ready for my friend Kristy coming this weekend!  I think it would be so fun to run a bed and breakfast someday, so I look at times like these as great opportunities to practice.  Here is what our spare room is looking like this fall!

And for those of you who are curious, here is our menu for the long weekend!

Saturday
breakfast: raspberry cream cheese coffee cake, scrambled eggs, grapes, coffee
lunch: creamy tomato soup with croutons, grilled cheese, salads with tangy Caesar dressing
dinner: chicken enchiladas, chips, restaurant-style salsa, queso blanco dip
dessert: chocolate chip cookies

Sunday
breakfast: breakfast souffle, double-orange scones with orange butter, fresh orange slices, coffee
lunch: leftover enchiladas
dinner: orange chicken stir fry, fried rice
dessert: sorbet with shortbread cookies

Monday
breakfast: raspberry cream cheese coffee cake, cereal, milk, coffee
lunch: grilled Mexican marinated flank steak, cilantro-lime rice, grilled corn
dinner: tacos made with leftover steak served with carmelized onions, lettuce, salsa, sour cream, & black beans

Sweet Fellowship

April 20, 2011 by Aliesha

We had our community ladies Bible study again last night, but instead of meeting at the church like usual, everyone came over to our house for dinner!

the lovely and talented Kelly, our waitress 🙂

We had a salad, a pasta bar, garlic bread, and dessert. (Shout out to my sweet hubby for washing all the dishes!!)

We packed 13 of us around our dining room table!

It was such a sweet time of fellowship!  We looked at lies women believe about themselves, like…

The lie: I’m not worth anything.
The truth:  My value is not determined by what others think of me or what I think of myself. My value is determined by how God views me.

The lie: I need to learn to love myself.
The truth: I already love myself. By faith, I need to receive God’s love for me. I need to deny myself and let God love others through me.

The lie: I can’t help the way I am.
The truth: If I am a child of God, I can choose to obey God. I am responsible for my own choices.

The lie: I have my rights.
The truth: Claiming rights will put me in bondage. Yielding rights will set me free.

The lie: Physical beauty matters more than inner beauty.
The truth: At best, physical beauty is temporal and fleeting. The beauty that matters most to God is that of my inner spirit and character.

The lie: I should not have to live with unfulfilled longings.
The truth:I will always have unfulfilled longings this side of heaven. The deepest longings of my heart cannot be filled by any created person or thing. If I will accept them, unfulfilled longings will increase my longing for God and for heaven.

Starting in May, we are going to begin meeting twice a month instead of just once a month.  I love these girls so much and I enjoy getting to learn from them as we study Lies Women Believe together!

Youth Christmas Party 2010

December 21, 2010 by Aliesha

We had twenty teens over at our house last night!  It was crazy and fun and wild… and we loved every minute of it.  Even Vera seemed to enjoy all the excitement.  (Who are we kidding – she was the life of the party!  She didn’t cry once.  Maybe we should have this many kids over every night!)

To eat, we enjoyed: popcorn, tortilla chips, salsa, cheese dip, pretzels, ham biscuits, cheese cubes, crackers, pepperoni, veggies, ranch dip, fiesta ranch dip, party meatballs, mini pigs in a blanket, pizza bagel bites, gingerbread cookies, sugar cookies, peanut butter balls, Kisses, and candy canes!

We played the Little Piece of Paper Game and did a white elephant gift exchange.

We sent Double Decker Fudge home with everyone.

So glad we were able to host this fun event!!
