Youth Christmas Party 2012

January 1, 2013 by Aliesha

The Saturday before Christmas, Tad and I hosted our annual youth Christmas party at our house.  We had such a fun time preparing the food and hosting all the youth (we had 15 people total).

Our four-course dinner menu:  cheese plates; Caesar salads with shaved parmesan and garlic croutons; steaks with carmelized onions, sauteed mushrooms, and herb butter; green beans with soy sauce and crumbled bacon; twice-stuffed baked potatoes with cheddar cheese and bacon, rosemary peasant bread with olive oil dipping sauce; my awesome ๐Ÿ™‚ New York cheesecake; and various coffeehouse drinks

We used disposable plates for three of the four courses and real plates for the main course, which helped save on dishes. ๐Ÿ™‚

We used a dropcloth as a tablecloth and decorated using fresh greenery, mini pinecones, white candles, and a mini Christmas tree.

We made little place cards and menu cards.

The kids LOVED the cofeehouse drinks.

We had a great time waiting on all the youth.

Tad did an awesome job cooking 15 steaks!!  He only sustained a few minor grease burns.

We think all the youth had a wonderful time!

Fall Tablescapes: Same Items, Two Ways

October 31, 2012 by Aliesha

I just love setting a pretty table for company or for my family!  Today I’ll share how to use the same accessories two different ways to set two beautiful fall tablescapes!

For both table settings, I used:
-swirly white Corelle dishes
-gingham napkins
-a round jute placemat from IKEA
-orange fall leaf salt & pepper shakers
-a cinnamon apple candle
-a big white pumpkin

First, I used the aforementioned items as well as some maroon dogwood leaves from our yard to create a cozy tablesetting.

The runner on the table is a lovely scrap of fabric my mom gave me.

I printed off the little Thanksgiving flags from here.

I folded the napkins to form a little pocket, into which I inserted a dogwood stem.

I scattered leaves around the centerpiece as well.

This pumpkin makes me smile!

For the second tablescape, I used some quilted fabric placemats and some woven napkin rings to create a company-ready, seasonally appropriate table!

The placemats are beautiful on their own, so I opted not to use a tablecloth or a runner.

Stuffing the napkins into rings gives a slightly less formal, but still lovely, affect.

So there you have it… same accessories, two different fall table settings!

September 5, 2011 by Aliesha

We had a great weekend with Kristy, my college roommate!  Here are a few pictures we got while she was here.

So glad she was able to come see us for a few days!
