Sparest of Spare Rooms

September 2, 2011 by Aliesha

The name of our guest room comes from Anne of Green Gables, when Aunt Josephine tells Anne, “If you come to town for a visit, I will put you up in my very sparest of spare rooms.”

I’ve been getting our spare room ready for my friend Kristy coming this weekend!  I think it would be so fun to run a bed and breakfast someday, so I look at times like these as great opportunities to practice.  Here is what our spare room is looking like this fall!

And for those of you who are curious, here is our menu for the long weekend!

Saturday

dessert: chocolate chip cookies

Sunday
breakfast: breakfast souffle, double-orange scones with orange butter, fresh orange slices, coffee
lunch: leftover enchiladas
dinner: orange chicken stir fry, fried rice
dessert: sorbet with shortbread cookies

What all do you put in your little basket for visitors? I have company all the time and I have a basket that I keep extra soap, shampoo, personal items, etc. Just curious…

@Joshua and StephanieIn that little basket in the guest room, I included some snack items (dried fruit, crackers, chocolate), a couple bottles of water, tissues, and a couple of toiletry items. In our guest bathroom, I have a larger basket of toiletries, including shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, lotions, etc. – pretty much all of which I received as free samples in the mail!
