Jude Micah

September 16, 2013 by Aliesha

We always choose baby names based on meanings as well as liking how they sound and how they fit into our family.  Here is what Jude’s name means:

Jude – Latin, “praise”
Now to him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you blameless before the presence of his glory with great joy, to the only God, our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen. – Jude 24-25

Micah – Hebrew, “Who is like the LORD?”
Who is a God like you, pardoning iniquity and passing over transgression for the remnant of his inheritance?  He does not retain his anger forever, because he delights in steadfast love.  He will again have compassion on us; He will tread our iniquities underfoot.  You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea.  You will show faithfulness to Jacob and steadfast love to Abraham, as you have sworn to our fathers from the days of old. – Micah 7:18-20

Read about Vera and Cordelia‘s names as well.

Books about New Babies

September 11, 2013 by Aliesha

Since as of the time of this post, we still don’t have a new baby at our house, I thought today I’d share some of our favorite books that we’ve read with Vera and Cordelia to help prepare them for their new baby brother!

These aren’t in a particular order.

If You Were Born a Kitten by Marion Dane Bauer – sweet book about how different animals are born and what they look like when they are first born

Baby’s Book of the Body – lots of pictures of babies, including body parts (belly button, ears, nose, etc.) and facial expressions (happy, sad, etc.)

On the Night You Were Born by Nancy Tillman – celebrating how special each new baby is

The New Baby at Your House by Joanna Cole – longer book with great explanations about how life may change for the older sibling once the new baby comes, as well as details about the baby (what he/she will be able to do, what he/she will eat, etc.)

Mommy’s Little Girl by Ronne Randall – a fun book to teach older children that they were once babies too

The New Baby by Fred Rogers – a classic book explaining what it will be like to have a new baby and to adjust to the changes in the family

Love You Forever by Robert Munsch – a heartwarming book about a mother’s always and forever love, which I cannot read without crying

Our New Baby by Catherine Mackenzie – Christian book about how to show Jesus’ love to the new baby

We Like to Nurse by Chia Martin – pictures and descriptions of different mammals nursing their young

The New Baby – great book about Mommy going to the hospital, older siblings visiting at the hospital, Mommy nursing the new baby, and siblings helping out

Little Mommy by Sharon Kane – one of Vera’s favorite books, depicting a little girl caring for her baby dolls throughout the day

What are some of your family’s favorite “new baby” books?
