Styled Sauder Credenza in the Living Room

April 23, 2015 by Aliesha

I recently acquired a new piece of furniture for our living room, and it has been SO fun to style and decorate!  This is the Adept Storage Credenza from Sauder.  Sauder creates on-trend, affordable furniture that is easy to style for your living space.

Sauder-Credenza-2

This piece is so classic and beautiful and styling it for the new Sauder Put Together Lookbook was a breeze!  It was also simple to assemble in a couple of hours.  (Little bit of trivia about me… I LOVE putting together furniture!)

Sauder-Credenza-4

The credenza is perfect for storing books, photo books, and other odds and ends in the baskets.

Sauder-Credenza-3

The beautiful light wood top is my favorite part!  It looks rough and weathered, but it’s smooth.  I love the combination of the wood top with the white lower half!

Sauder-Credenza-5

There is so much storage space in this credenza, but there is also so much opportunity to make it look pretty!  When styling it, I varied the type of baskets I used to create interest.  I also made sure to put the books on the shelves in interesting ways.  I kept to a cohesive color scheme (the predominant colors of my living room) but tried to spread out the color throughout the various cubbies.

Sauder-Credenza-6

I know I’m going to have fun styling this piece seasonally as well.  And how pretty would this piece be in a dining room or craft room as well?

Make sure you check out the Sauder Put Together Lookbook for more inspiration for how to style this credenza and other lovely Sauder furniture too!

Get Your Windows Ready for Winter: Fall Energy-Saving Ideas

October 28, 2014 by Aliesha

If you’re concerned about energy efficiency and reducing your heat bill this winter, the first place to start is with your windows! As much as 50% of your home’s heating and cooling is heading straight out the window (source).

Here are a few tips to help make your home more energy efficient as we transition into the fall and winter months!

Replace old windows

This can be an expensive option, but ultimately it’s the most effective way to reduce heat loss through the windows. We’re currently saving up to do this, since our house has its original 1920’s windows!

Seal leaks with caulk and weatherstripping

If you can’t replace your windows (which I totally understand), sealing up the noticeable drafts in doors and windows using caulk or weatherstripping can be really effective as well. The cost you invest in the materials will be offset after just one year due to the reduction in energy costs (source).

Install energy-efficient window treatments

In doing research for this post, I was greatly surprised to find out how much window treatments can affect your energy efficiency in your home! Décorview offers energy efficient custom window treatments from Hunter Douglas (like these shades and shutters) that will help prevent your heat from (literally) going out the window! Having properly installed energy-efficient window treatments can decrease heat loss through the windows by as much as 25% (source)!

Use natural light to your advantage

Make the most of natural light in your home by opening the east-facing window shades and/or drapes in the morning when the sun is rising, and opening the west-facing window shades and/or drapes in the afternoon before the sun sets. Keep the blinds or shades and drapes closed at night to help keep your heat from escaping outside.

Décorview offers free design consultations to help you select the best custom window treatments from Hunter Douglas for your home to transition into fall. After the initial consultation, Décorview will help you with both the measurement and installation processes!

Schedule your free design consultation from Décorview and save on your window projects before December 16th.

The Sauder Experience: Sideboard Restyled

October 10, 2014 by Aliesha

Sauder recently challenged me to take one piece of furniture and style it in three different ways! This was easy, and so fun!

If you remember from this post back in the summer (where you can read about my experience shopping for and assembling the piece), I selected the Shoal Creek Soft White Dresser from Sauder. This is what it looked like then.

Three months later, I still love it! I’ve been using it as a sideboard in my dining room when entertaining, and it is so great to have the extra surface to set things on other than the table!

We used it at Vera’s birthday party (see here and here), as well as pretty much any other time we’ve had lots of guests over! We had a sandwich buffet on it one weekend, and another time we used it for holding all the dishes we served family-style. I also like being able to decorate it seasonally.

Here is one new way I styled it recently… for an autumn brunch!

The next way is a bit outside of the box, but I wanted to show the versatility of this piece! Many homeschooling families I know do their school work in their dining room, so I styled this as a practical piece for educational use!

As we start to do more “official” school stuff in the future, it will be great to be able to have all our supplies in the dining room so we can work right at the table.

Think about how many school supplies you can store in those drawers! Perfect for keeping everything conveniently within reach, yet also hidden out of site!

I love using this Sauder dresser in my dining room! I can’t wait to use it in many other fun ways in the future.
