My Favorite Things to Buy at Grove Collaborative

September 23, 2016 by Aliesha

What to Buy at Grove Collaborative: The Best Products for the Natural Home | Feathers in Our NestOnce upon a time (about a year ago), I signed up for a Grove Collaborative (then ePantry) membership during one of their special deals (similar to the one happening right now… read on!).

I expected that I would get the special offer, then cancel my membership.  BUT, here we are, one year later, and I’m still a devoted customer of Grove Collaborative!  I just love that I can customize what I need each month and make changes right up to the time my order ships.  The customer service is phenomenal, and I can’t say enough good things about the company and the people who run it!

I thought you might enjoy seeing a list of my favorite things so you know what to buy at Grove Collaborative!  I obviously don’t buy all of these things every month, and this isn’t an exhaustive list of everything I’ve ever gotten.

What to Buy at Grove Collaborative

What to Buy at Grove Collaborative | Feathers in Our NestSeventh Generation Dish Soap

I have sensitive skin, and this is one dish soap I’ve found that doesn’t irritate my skin.  I also get the dish soap refill, since it’s an even better deal than the smaller bottles.

Caldrea Dish Soap

I got hooked on this over the summer, and it looks SO pretty next to my kitchen sink!  I love the Ginger Pomelo scent.

Caldrea Hand Soap

Again, this looks gorgeous in my kitchen and smells amazing.  Love it!

I keep buying this in ALLTHESCENTS as well.  It’s fun to change out the soap in our guest bathroom to fit the season!  The new fall scents are excellent (especially Apple Cider).

Mrs. Meyers’s Multi-Surface Cleaner

I’m obsessed with this stuff.  I have it in several scents, and I love the light, clean smell it gives to my kitchen when I use it for cleaning!

I am totally hooked on the basil scent of this bar soap.  It’s so fresh and clean! What to Buy at Grove Collaborative | Feathers in Our Nest

Grove Collaborative Soy Candle

I love how these soy candles burn clean and add a lovely, not-too-strong fragrance to my home.  I have all the scents, but my personal favorite is Vanilla + Sandalwood.

Grove Collaborative Kitchen Towels

These towels are so soft and strong, and I keep buying them!  They come in a few colors.  They wash up SO nice!

Acure Organics Shampoo

In the last few months, they started carrying the whole line of Acure Organics shampoos.  The Volume Shampoo and Conditioner work great with my hair!

Acure Organics Argan Oil

Speaking of Acure Organics, I adore the Argan Oil!  This stuff lasts a loooong time because you don’t need much.  After oil cleansing (with jojoba oil), I apply a bit of Argan Oil to my face when I need a bit of extra moisturizing.  I also apply it to the ends of my hair (after washing, when mostly dry but still a bit damp) when it’s feeling dry.

Acure Organics Eye Cream

I probably will never run out of this, since you don’t need much!  I apply this at night several times a week.  So nice!

I really could go on and on talking about favorite Grove Collaborative products!  I never thought I’d love their subscription service so much, but I do.

Besides the wide selection of products, the fast shipping, and the wonderful customer service, one other thing I love about Grove Collaborative is that they package everything so well!  They carefully tape the lids of the products and pack things upright in a box so that everything stays where it should. What to Buy at Grove Collaborative | Feathers in Our Nest

DIY Home Decor is a (Sometimes Long) Process

September 17, 2016 by Aliesha

Before you scroll down to see the photos in this post, can you do me a favor and stop to read this first?  I don’t know where you are in your season of life, but before I share some living room updates, I want to say a few words.  (Believe me, it’s not because I think what I’m about to share is All That. Please read on…)

Because you see, I used to look at other bloggers’ living rooms and think… whoah.  I need that rug.  I need that lamp.  I need that gorgeous whatever.  I need her ability to style a vignette.  And the truth was, I didn’t.  My living room didn’t need to look exactly like hers, nor did I need any of that stuff at the time.

We went through a very lean time financially for the first several years of our marriage, and there was absolutely no money for home decor in the budget.  (God was so faithful to provide for our family through Tad’s hard work, but there wasn’t extra money for things like new pillows, rugs, etc.)  In that season, everything I brought home to decorate the house with was either a gift or was bought using money given to me as a present.  I still found ways to make our home cozy, to decorate for the seasons, and to love our home as best as we could.

When I look back on pictures (some that I even shared on the blog), I’m a little embarrassed, but I shouldn’t be.  We were content with what we had in that season and I did feel that my home was beautiful enough to share on my blog and to welcome friends and family into.

Even now, I look around our home and see many things that need to be done.  Our house is almost 100 years old, so it needs a lot of updates still.  The list of improvements we could do is lengthy.

But just as I learned contentment in that season of blank walls and sparse decor, I know I want my heart to be filled with contentment and joy in this season as well.

So if you’re in a similar season to where we were just a few years ago, and your budget is tight or your home is small or you have no eye for design or whatever, please know that we all have areas where we are growing in contentment.  We are filled with longings that can only be met by God, not a new rug or new windows or fresh paint.

With all of that said, I wanted to share some pictures of our living room as it looked this summer (before I decorated for fall). I didn’t want to share these pictures without first gently reminding all of us that true joy only comes from Christ, not from cozy home decor!

We recently added a new rug to the living room.  I love how it adds so much interest to the room (and hides the old carpet, haha).

I found this little side table and I thought it would be the perfect thing to replace the old black one that was there.  It lightens up that corner!

Some of the pillows on the couch are new.  One of them (the feathers) is a cover that I just put on an old pillow!  I really like the lamp as well, and it provides a nice alternative to the overhead lighting.

I still love our console table and really enjoy decorating that!  On the top shelf we store our Chatbooks so the kids can flip through them frequently.

For a while I had been wanting a large statement piece for over the mantel, and I finally found one I love!  It’s exactly what I was looking for and it fills the wall space above the mantel much better than what was there before.

I have a little vignette on the wall by the door, and I enjoy changing out the decor on the shelf as is seasonally appropriate.

I hope you enjoyed seeing the recent updates we’ve made in our living room… and don’t forget: 1) creating a beautiful home you love is a long process, and 2) true contentment is found in Jesus, not in how our home looks.

Enjoy your weekend!

Giveaway: Mary & Martha Queen Anne’s Lace Pitcher

August 2, 2016 by Aliesha

Disclosure: I was provided with this pitcher for the purpose of conducting this review and hosting this giveaway.  All opinions are my own.

Grace&GratitudePitcher2I don’t know about you, but I love beautiful home decor, and I love making my home a space that is full of grace and beauty.  But more than a beautiful house, I want a house that points people to Christ.  I want the art on my walls, the food that I make, the serving pieces I use, and the spirit with which I serve my family to all bring glory to God.

My home is not my own; it is His.  I want to use everything in my home to serve others.  As I plan what decorative elements go in each room, I try to find a few things for each room that will point to God in a very real way.

Denise, a Senior Team Leader with Mary and Martha, sent me this beautiful Queen Anne’s Lace Pitcher with the words “grace & gratitude” around the top.  This piece reminds me, and all those who eat around our table, that God’s grace is ever present in our lives, and we are forever grateful to Him for the work He is doing in each of us.

I love the beautiful texture of the embellishments (lovely Queen Anne’s lace, dots, and lettering), and the pitcher is such a good size!

Grace&GratitudePitcher

I love the company Mary and Martha because of all the gorgeous items that bring reminders of God into your home.  This pitcher is just one of many inspirational products you can find when you shop.

–Acts 2:46 Tea Towel

I would use this on cakes, pies, and other desserts!  It’s so pretty.
