Get Educated about Essential Oils & Herbs

June 24, 2016 by Aliesha

When I first started using essential oils and herbs, it was hard to find good, trustworthy information.  Sometimes I would encounter crazy suggestions for things to do with essential oils (and I still do, honestly).  I mostly relied on a few safe sources, such as the Rocky Mountain Oils blog and this book.  Many eBooks I got for free were completely worthless, so I just relied on a few sources I could trust.

Now there are many wonderful eBooks, eCourses, and resources available to essential oil enthusiasts, but it’s hard to know which ones are the good resources and which ones are junk.  Wouldn’t it be awesome if all of the best essential oil and herbal remedy resources were all in one place?

I wanted to share with you a collection of resources I just purchased that I think you might find helpful as well!

It’s called the Herbs and Essential Oils Super Bundle, and it includes twenty eCourses, eBooks, and printables that will make learning to use essential oils a breeze.  Whether you’re a beginner or an intermediate essential oils and herb user, there is something here for you!Full_Bundle_Graphic_2

Several resources that are especially awesome:

-Herbs & Oils: Beyond the Basics by Jessie Hawkins at Vintage Remedies ($197) – I’ve taken another Vintage Remedies course in the past and it was so helpful… can’t wait to take this one!
-Safe Essential Oils Labels ($19.99) – These labels are perfect for putting on your bottles of EOs so you can remember which ones are safe to use for children, in pregnancy, etc.
-Essential Oils Planner Printables ($5.95) – Ever wanted to really organize your essential oils information? This is perfect for that. Make a list of your stash, keep a record of what oils you’ve tried and what has worked, and more.
-DIY Lavender Creations by Stacy Karen of A Delightful Home ($5.99) – I love all of the neat DIY gift ideas in this eBook!
-How to Create Healing Herbal Baths ($19.99) – Can’t wait to dig into this one and try some lovely herbal baths!

Something I really love about this bundle is that it is NOT branded to a specific oil company.  Regardless of the essential oil company you use or where you buy your herbs, you will be able to use these resources and become better informed about how to use your oils and herbs.  I also love that these remedies are backed with science and not just hearsay!HEO_Headline_with_Background

With these resources at your fingertips, you’ll be able to:

  • Separate fact from fiction as you choose quality herbs and essential oils.
  • Confidently prepare salves, syrups, tinctures, and teas.
  • Properly dilute oils for topical use.
  • Learn blending principals for aromatic use.
  • Incorporate essential oils into easy and effective herbal remedies.
  • Know which herbs are safe for pregnancy, babies and children.
  • Use printables to organize your essential oils for safety and ease of use.
  • Create beauty products, herbal baths, and even gifts for friends and family.

You can get this entire herbs and essential oils library, worth over $400, for less than $30. That’s 92% off what it would cost to buy everything individually!  I think this is really affordable, especially when you consider the rising cost of healthcare today.  If something you learned from an eBook or eCourse could keep you from going to the doctor just once, what you’d save in paying a copay could cover the cost of this bundle! (And I believe these resources will help you more than just one time!)Skills_Confidence

I love the bonus offer that comes with this bundle too!

Golden Poppy Herbal Apothecary is a full-service apothecary and clinic offering small batch hand-made herbal products to enhance your health and wellbeing. With your bundle, you’ll also receive a special coupon for 50% off bulk herbs and essential oils.  I already have a full shopping cart of herbs and I’m almost ready to place my order!  Absolutely love the high-value coupon!

The bundle is available from now until Monday, June 27th, 2016 at 11:59pm EST. That’s why the Ultimate Bundles team can offer so much, because they only have permission to sell it for such a short period of time.

Learn more or get your bundle now!

If you think getting all these herb & essential oil resources for less than $30 sounds like a steal, then make sure to go HERE to see exactly what it includes and grab yours before this deal ends!

And as always, I wouldn’t share about this if I didn’t use it and love it personally.  🙂

The 10 Essential Oils I Use Most Frequently

April 21, 2016 by Aliesha

These are the 10 essential oils I use the most - those everyday oils that I grab all the time! Helpful list to know which ones are most useful! | Feathers in Our NestI’ve already written a few other posts about buying essential oils…

–what to look for in a company
–my top three essential oils for beginners
–what blends I have and how I use them
–scientific research showing which oils work & why
–what else you need beside oils when first getting started

…but today I want to write yet another one!

Sure, it’s great to hear what oils you should get, but which ones are actually used the most?  My list is similar to the list I wrote for beginners, but the truth is, after having used essential oils for over two years, I have a handful that I gravitate towards the most!

If you use essential oils too, your list of “must haves” may be completely different than mine.  If you don’t have any yet, this list is a great place to start!

The 10 Essential Oils I Use Most Frequently

Lavender

I’ve heard it said, “when in doubt, use lavender.” I have gone through more bottles of lavender than any other oil, so I think it must be true for us!  I use it as a sleep aid, for cuts & bruises, for immune support in children, to soothe skin, and to help heal burns.  Grab it here.

Melaleuca / Tea Tree

Melaleuca and Tea Tree are very similar.  Tea Tree is stronger, so I use that one less (but it’s my go-to for cleaning yucky stuff). I use melaleuca for facial blemishes, infections (like an infected pierced ear lobe, etc.), sore throats, and immune support. Grab melaleuca here or tea tree here.

Frankincense

Expensive, yes, but frankincense is wonderful. When you dilute it in a carrier oil, it obviously goes further and you still get all of the benefits!  I use frankincense on my face almost every day.  I love how it smells (very grounding). Grab it here.

Spearmint

Because my kids are small, I use spearmint where peppermint is called for.  It’s much safer for kids, plus it smells amazing!  Our favorite thing to do when our kids are sick is run a nice, warm bath (with a few drops of lavender in it), then run the diffuser (this one is on sale) in the bathroom with spearmint in it while they are bathing.  This works wonders for stuffy noses!  The spearmint (and the warm air from the bath) clears their heads and the lavender helps make them drowsy for bed. Grab spearmint here.

Gentle Healer

This is basically a first aid kit in a bottle.  I frequently put Gentle Healer on cuts, infections (like toe nails, etc.), broken skin, burns, and even eczema.  When diluted properly, it will last a long time!  Grab it here.

Purify

Because we’re constantly cleaning up gross/messy things, Purify is one of my most frequently used oils.  Add a few drops to a spray bottle filled with vinegar and use it to clean surfaces.  We also diffuse it to rid a room of nasty odors.  Grab Purify here.

Orange

Orange is my favorite oil to diffuse, and I especially like to diffuse it when sickness is going around (or has already taken down someone in our home).  Grab it here.

Vetiver

Vetiver is my go-to if I need help falling asleep!  I used it a lot last summer, but now I can fall asleep anytime, anywhere without any trouble.  Still, I always pack it when I travel! Grab it here.

Ginger

Tummy trouble? Ginger is your oil!  I use this one for stomach troubles of all kinds. It’s gentle and soothing! (Rub, diluted, on abdomen.) Grab it here.

Peppermint

Peppermint is also great for stomach troubles when combined with ginger. I also like to use this one in homemade cleaning products. It’s also a great pesticide… ants hate it! Grab peppermint here.

DIY Aftershave Balm

January 29, 2016 by Aliesha

DIY Aftershave BalmOver a year ago, Tad started using shaving soap, a brush, and a safety razor instead of an electric razor.  He loves this method (very manly).  Here’s what he uses: razor / stand / brush. We buy the soap here, but I made the pre-shave oil and the aftershave balm myself.  The pre-shave oil is a mixture of equal parts castor oil and olive oil, but I will share the recipe for the aftershave balm today!

Aftershave balm soothes the skin after shaving and makes the skin so soft.  It’s wonderful for providing relief if there are any little nicks from shaving.

This balm is really a lotion, and it’s not just for men!  It’s lovely for legs after shaving too!

You can add essential oils to this if you want.  Really nice additions would be sandalwood, rosemary, frankincense, or eucalyptus. DIY Aftershave Balm

Soothing to the skin after shaving, this aftershave balm is easy to make (and nice for legs as well as the face)!
Author: Aliesha @ Feathers in Our Nest
Ingredients
  • ⅓ cup shea butter
  • ⅓ cup coconut oil
  • ¼ cup olive oil
Instructions
  1. Combine ingredients in a quart mason jar. Place jar inside a heavy saucepan or pot filled with a few inches of water.
  2. Heat water on stovetop, stirring mixture inside jar until it is fully melted.
  3. Remove from heat and pour mixture (Carefully! Jar will be hot!) into the base of a stand mixer or a metal mixing bowl.
  4. Chill in the fridge until it is opaque in color but still soft. (Think, consistency of Crisco.)
  5. Whip the mixture for several minutes with a stand or hand mixer. It should resemble frosting.
  6. Add any essential oils desired (suggested: sandalwood, rosemary, frankincense, or eucalyptus) and whip again.
  7. Ready to use right away! Store in a glass jar.
