Baby Countdown Checklist

January 9, 2012 by Aliesha

it wasn’t so very long ago that we brought this sweet little one home with us!

I realized over the weekend how many things I still have on my to-do list for preparing for the new baby!  I broke down my list into smaller chunks that I can accomplish each week.  If I get ahead of schedule, all the better!

Week 34
-pre-wash new diapers (done)
-buy cloth diaper detergent (done)

Week 35
-paint nursery
-arrange care for Vera for when I go into labor
-write notes for Vera’s caretaker(s)
-deep-clean our bedroom (since Mango will be in there with us at first)
-make a new batch of laundry detergent

Week 36
-gather breastfeeding supplies (covers, pads, lanolin, nursing bras, etc.)
-get out newborn clothes
-set up nursery (move around furniture, arrange closet, hang curtains, maybe decorate a little, etc.)
-pack hospital bags (mine, Tad’s, baby’s)
-pack Vera’s bag

Week 37
-bake several loaves of whole-wheat bread and freeze
-make a few meals for the freezer
-create a freezer inventory list with cooking instructions
-stock pantry with staples (brown rice, oatmeal, etc.)
-take maternity photos (?)

Week 38
-write shower thank-you notes
-catch up (or get ahead!)

Week 39
-buy any last-minute needs (disposable diapers, etc.)
-thoroughly clean out fridge
-thoroughly clean both bathrooms
-get a haircut

Week 40
-set up pack ‘n’ play in our bedroom

Week 41
-get a pedicure (it’s my reward if I’m still great with child…ha!)

I have a good friend who went into labor a few hours after getting a pedicure/foot massage. Don’t know if that’s what did it, but it couldn’t hurt to try!

Wow! This looks scarey to me! My babies (all 3 of them) came several weeks early, so after the first one, I planned to have everything done that needed done pre-birth by week 36. It paid off with the next two and I wasn’t caught unprepared (like with the first one).

@SallyVera came two weeks “late,” so I guess I’m not as worried as maybe I should be about Mango coming early. ๐Ÿ™‚ If anything on this list past week 36 doesn’t get done (if Mango is early), it will be okay! (i.e., we can pick up some diapers on the way home from the hospital and set up the pack ‘n’ play in minutes… no big deal) I don’t think I can get through this list any faster with what all I have going on right now, so I’m trusting God that He’ll help me get the important things accomplished before the birth!

I’m sure the Lord will work things out just fine. I just remember when Paul, our first one was born, I didn’t even have any clothes to wear to nurse a baby, no nursing bras, no baby clothes or suitcase packed, etc. One of the mid-wives assured me it was o.k. for me to live in bathrobes for a few days until I figured out my wardrobe. (I sent my sister to town for some nursing bras.) While I was in the hospital, Andrew went and bought a piece of foam for the bassinet, and we used a towel for a sheet. I also hemmed a skirt (I call it my “post-partum skirt”) during my labor, and I managed to finish it and wear it home from the hospital. Then my MIL gave me some of her skirts to wear. Since Paul was so tiny, my mom bought some preemie outfits for him to wear. So, God worked things out just fine, even though I wasn’t prepared. It was just a little stressful since I wasn’t prepared practically or mentally when our firstborn came.
