New Year, New You: Read Through the Bible

January 10, 2012 by Aliesha

Many Christians resolve to read through the Bible in a year, and while this is a worthy goal, sometimes we get bogged down part way through the year (or fall hopelessly behind in our plan).

I like trying different Bible reading plans, particularly ones that have you read from several different sections of Scripture each day.  (Instead of starting in Genesis and just powering through to Revelation, you may be reading a chapter in Psalms, Genesis, 1 Chronicles, and Luke on a given day.)

I found this great list of Bible reading plans at the start of this year, and it’s not too late to jump on board with one of them!

This year, I’m doing the ESV Bible reading plan.  On this plan, I will read through the entire Bible once, as well as read Psalms, Isaiah, Luke, and Romans twice.  There is a great PDF checklist to help you stay on track (you know I love checking off little boxes!).

Are you doing a Bible reading plan this year?  Tell us about it!

Rather than following a checklist plan this year, I am reading through certain books and letting God lead my study. I tried the other “plans” and it felt like I was putting God in a box and just “getting through” my reading…sad, huh?! So, I am reading 1 John through every day for a month, then moving to John, Psalms, Proverbs, and Mark…and then on from there. I John is teaching me how to have fellowship with God and my fellow Christians first and then I will move on to learning about Christ (again). 🙂 I am really praying that this “plan” works better for me than others. I am also journaling every time I read.
