I Feed My Baby Salsa

June 21, 2011 by Aliesha

It’s true!  I actually feed my ten-month-old baby mild salsa.

And she likes it!

I remember reading somewhere about how if you give your babies salsa to eat it helps them be better eaters later on.  I guess because it is spicy and so packed with flavor it helps them learn to like other new foods?

In other countries, babies eat the foods their parents eat, and there are many countries whose cuisine is MUCH spicier than ours!

Other “strange” things I feed Vera:
-zucchini strips
-cottage cheese
-plain yogurt (no sugar added!)
-hummus (seasoned with adobo seasoning!)
-white bean dip
-black beans
-roasted peppers
-guacamole
-salmon

Here’s what her typical daily menu looks like.
(I don’t measure out her foods – these are just approximations.)

Breakfast:  1-2 Tbsp. cottage cheese, plain yogurt, or Greek yogurt; 2 Tbsp. blueberries (halved); 2 Tbsp. other fruit (strawberries, watermelon, mango, and bananas are popular); sometimes a scrambled egg yolk; a small handful of Cheerios

Lunch:  1 Tbsp. hummus; 1 Tbsp. natural cheese; 2 Tbsp. veggies (zucchini strips, potato “fries,” sweet/regular potatoes, cooked mixed veggies, etc.); 1/2 hard boiled egg yolk; 1/4 piece of whole wheat bread; 1-2 Tbsp. fruit

Dinner:  any of the things I listed above for lunch; some of whatever we are eating (potatoes, pasta, vegetables, fish, bread, etc.); 1 Tbsp. fruit/yogurt for “dessert”

Do you feed your baby anything unusual?

Splishin’ & a Splashin’!

June 20, 2011 by Aliesha

Over the weekend, we went over to Travis & Andrea’s and Vera got to play on Owen’s splash pad!  She really had a blast.

she was really close to taking her first steps!

Here’s a video in which she gets squirted in the face ๐Ÿ™‚

And here’s one of her and Owen playing together!  Check out Owen’s dance moves!

I’m glad Vera is enjoying the water now! It makes for so much fun in the summertime!

Vera’s Ten Months Old!

June 19, 2011 by Aliesha

sorry… next to the chair was the best we could get today!

Vera turned 10 months old today! We are loving the adorable little girl that she is becoming. Every day she seems less “baby” and more “toddler”!

Some milestones:
-eats three solid food meals a day (and a couple snacks)
-breastfeeds about five times a day
-sleeps 9pm-ish to 8:30am-ish
-takes a morning nap and an afternoon nap
-loves to greet people with waves (and sometimes says “hi” to Mommy or Daddy)
-chatters, squeals, jabbers, and babbles
-can stand on her own for several seconds
-“walks” around objects (like the coffee table) while holding on with one hand
-still only has two teeth
-loves “the eensy weensy spider”
-really is enjoying books (we signed her up for the summer reading program at the library!)
-has learned to pet the kitty gently (and is delighted when the kitty approaches her!)
-likes “talking” (listening) on the phone
-claps and bounces along when Mommy sings to her
-LOVES taking baths!! (remember, she used to hate them!)
-loves any chance to be in water (pool, etc.)
-enjoys stroller rides, swinging, and spending time outside
-prefers Mommy and Daddy to anyone else ๐Ÿ™‚
-is getting very attached to her pink crocheted blanket
-weighs about 17.5 lbs.

Here is what her daily routine looks like:
-rise at 8:30 or 9:00
-nurse
-eat breakfast
-story time
-morning nap 10:00 or 10:30
-nurse
-eat lunch
-outdoors time (swinging, etc.)
-afternoon nap 2:00 or 2:30
-nurse
-“help” Mommy in the kitchen making dinner and/or playtime with Daddy
-eat dinner
-often a bath is necessary
-sometimes we go on a walk as a family
-play time
-more stories
-nurse at 9:00
-in bed by 9:30

We are thankful for how she is growing, learning, and developing! We feel so blessed to be her parents.

P.S. In the first picture, Vera is wearing the dress I made her!
