Redeeming the Time on the Telephone

August 12, 2010 by Aliesha

I try to redeem the time as much as I can during the day, and one of the ways I do this is by doing simple one-handed tasks while I am on the telephone.

While on the phone, you can…
-water houseplants
-put away clean dishes
-throw in a load of laundry or switch laundry from the washer to the dryer
-make the bed
-straighten ANY room of the house
-carry things from the room they were in to the room in which they belong
-put letters out for the mail/check the mail
-dust
-wipe down counter-tops in the kitchen or bathroom
-organize small areas you’ve been meaning to get to (i.e., a junk drawer or your jewelry box)
-and I’m sure there are many more!

Of course, you’ll want to draw the line at things that are noisy or distracting (i.e., vacuuming) or require thought (i.e., responding to emails). 🙂

How do you redeem the time during the day?

Thoughts on Procrastination

August 5, 2010 by Aliesha

I’ve been reading a good book lately, and I wanted to share this excerpt that really resonated with me.

From Get More Done in Less Time by Donna Otto:

Do you know what really makes you tired? The things you don’t do, not the things you do!
Procrastination–worrying about the things you need to get done, putting them off because you dread them or because you would rather be doing something else–makes you tired, not work.
Your body feels tired, just from the strain of knowing there are so many things you should do that you never will get to.

Otto then recommends applying what she calls the “first and fast” rule to your daily tasks. Do the things you dislike or dread FIRST and get them over with quickly!

Revolutionary, right?

When Creativity Strikes

February 25, 2010 by Aliesha

“My business is to create.” – William Blake

Sometimes I just get a creative urge. You know … the feeling where you haven’t done anything creative lately and you feel like if you don’t you’re going to explode. (I’ve been told that this may not be entirely normal…haha.)

At any rate, I’m definitely feeling the need to start a new project soon. I’m waiting until next week when we find out if our baby is a boy or a girl to finish the bird mobile and other accessories for the nursery.

In the mean time, I really want to work on something fun and crafty. This blog is really inspiring, listing projects from bloggers all over the world who are willing to share step-by-step tutorials of their creative endeavors.

Maybe tomorrow on hubby’s day off we’ll head into town and go to Michael’s. I’m really wanting this project to involve paint, I think.

Recently (three weeks ago?) I made a little felt case for my sewing needles.
