Updates – January

January 10, 2013 by Aliesha

I thought I should probably offer some sort of explanation as to why I haven’t blogged much lately!

We are in the middle of replumbing our entire house (and by “we,” I mean Tad and a heroic friend from church). We have not had consistent hot water at our house in over a year (long story!), and we’ve had multiple leaks under our house since this past spring.  Some very generous family members have given us money for replumbing, so we’ve been working on that for the past week.  We had a few late nights (up until 2 a few times) and a lot of unexpected problems, but God is good and we are on our way to having hot running water again!!

Both the girls continue to be high-energy πŸ™‚ and they keep me quite busy throughout the day.  Vera has a constant stream of chatter and questions (and she is quite hilarious much of the time).  She still loves reading books, and I can read to her for 30-45 minutes before she’s ready for a new activity.  Cordelia is “walking” around furniture, and every now and then she is brave enough to let go and stand on her own for a couple seconds.  Cordelia loves stuffed animals as well as any toys that play music.

We are planning Cordelia’s first birthday party next month, so I’ve been pinning some ideas for that.

I’m trying to keep up with cooking healthy meals for our family.  We feel so much better when we eat healthy food!  Since the beginning of January, we have been “eating clean” again (though we mostly did in December) and avoiding sugar (even most natural sweeteners).  I’ve been using my crockpot (recipes from Mama and Baby Love’s cookbook) some to save on dishes.

I got a blender before Christmas, so we’ve been enjoying some tasty smoothies made with it.

I am also busy working on promotional materials for a homeschooling conference my mom is speaking at in Richmond (at Tad’s home church) in the spring.  I love doing graphic design like this… it’s such a fun creative outlet for me!

The weather here has warmed up a bit so we’ve been taking some family walks.  The girls love getting outside and visiting all the neighborhood doggies.

We’re starting a new ladies’ Bible study this Tuesday on 1 & 2 Peter.  I’m really excited about it!

I think that brings you up to speed on our lives!  So what’s new with you?

Youth Christmas Party 2012

January 1, 2013 by Aliesha

The Saturday before Christmas, Tad and I hosted our annual youth Christmas party at our house.  We had such a fun time preparing the food and hosting all the youth (we had 15 people total).

Our four-course dinner menu:  cheese plates; Caesar salads with shaved parmesan and garlic croutons; steaks with carmelized onions, sauteed mushrooms, and herb butter; green beans with soy sauce and crumbled bacon; twice-stuffed baked potatoes with cheddar cheese and bacon, rosemary peasant bread with olive oil dipping sauce; my awesome πŸ™‚ New York cheesecake; and various coffeehouse drinks

We used disposable plates for three of the four courses and real plates for the main course, which helped save on dishes. πŸ™‚

We used a dropcloth as a tablecloth and decorated using fresh greenery, mini pinecones, white candles, and a mini Christmas tree.

We made little place cards and menu cards.

The kids LOVED the cofeehouse drinks.

We had a great time waiting on all the youth.

Tad did an awesome job cooking 15 steaks!!  He only sustained a few minor grease burns.

We think all the youth had a wonderful time!

Thankful for ministry opportunities like this!
