Spring Wreath Tutorial {Frugal and Fast!}

March 10, 2014 by Aliesha

I recently made a pretty spring wreath for our front door!  I have been soooo ready for spring, and in the last two days, the weather has finally turned warm!  It’s in the upper-60’s and sunny!

This wreath was very easy to make and only cost me $14.  It’s really big and makes quite a statement on our front door!  We’re getting a new front door soon, so I took an indoor picture.

To make one, you will need:
-1 grapevine wreath (I got mine at Michael’s and used a coupon, so it was around $2)
-6 stems of artificial hot pink parrot tulips (from the Dollar Tree, so $6)
-4 stems of artificial yellow alstroemeria (ditto, $4)
-2 stems of grassy stems with fuzzy green balls (ditto, $2)
-ribbon for hanging (I had this on hand, but you can get it at the Dollar Tree too)
-wire cutters or scissors

To assemble your wreath:
-Cut all floral stems apart at the base, so that each individual flower is separate.
-Lay out the flowers on the floor (or table) the way you might like to place them on the wreath, just to get an idea of spacing.
-Start poking flower stems into the wreath, going around the wreath in one direction with each new stem overlapping the previous one.
-Continue adding flower stems, alternating among types, until you reach the beginning.
-Tuck the last stems under the first flowers.
-Add additional flowers anywhere needed to fill in “holes.”
-Loop some ribbon around the back to create a hanger for the wreath.
-If needed, you can secure the flowers with wire or hot glue, but mine seemed secure enough without doing that.

If you make a wreath like this, send me a picture!  I’d love to see it!

Strawberry Picking, Year 4

May 11, 2013 by Aliesha

This is the fourth spring we’ve lived just a mile or so from a strawberry patch!  We love to go picking every year.  Past years: 2010, 2011, 2012.

This year my family was in town the first weekend the patch was open, so naturally we had to go!

Everyday Snapshots

April 17, 2013 by Aliesha

More often than not, I grab photos throughout the day using my cell phone.  If you follow me on instagram, you’ve seen these already, but for those of you who don’t, I wanted to share!

I’ve been reading Shauna Niequist’s new book, Bread & Wine and cooking though it.

I made her (super easy) white chicken chili recipe for dinner last week (amazing!).

Vera looked so sweet dressed up for church a few weeks ago.  She picked out the hat by herself!

We enjoyed some time at the park last week when it was pretty.

We’re seeing signs of spring everywhere, like this beautiful dogwood blooming outside our breakfast nook window, and the yellow/green pollen coating our porch.

And we were thrilled that a family of birdies decided to make a home in our wreath on our front door!  They hatched over the weekend.  It’s seriously the sweetest thing!

We had some friends over for dinner last week.

I also did pull out my “big camera” a few times recently.

Vera woke up from her nap one day with ridiculous hair!  She’s so funny.

Cordelia always keeps us smiling too!

I thought it was so sweet the other day when Tad played Play Dough with Vera while I made dinner.

Thankful for all these little moments!
