Link Love

November 29, 2013 by Aliesha

I’m spending some time with family this weekend, as I’m sure you are too, but I wanted to share a few links for the weekend.

Here are some posts I’ve recently found encouraging!

– This is a practical post: How to soak the next generation in God’s Word

– How to be a perfectly miserable mother, in 11 easy steps!

– “I’m not so far out of the little years that I can talk like it is in the distant past. But I want to tell you who are still in that frantic phase – this is beautiful. And not because it is easy, but because it is impossibly hard.” Read more…

– “It wasn’t that I had a low view of motherhood coming into it – I knew it would be hard. I guess the thing that I didn’t realize was what kind of hard it was going to be.” Read more…

– “Our children are not tasks to complete, but gifts to enjoy.” Read more…

– Dear Parents with Young Children in Church, “I know how hard it is to do what you’re doing, but I want you to know, it matters…. It matters to the congregation to know that families care about faith, to see young people… and even on those weeks when you can’t see the little moments, it matters to your children.”

Have a great weekend!

If you’re looking for some fresh flowers with staying power, I recommend daisies!  I’ve had these for a week and a half already, and they’re still going strong!  Most of the time they last 3 weeks at least.  I picked these up at Harris Teeter for $4.

I’ve been drinking a lot of red raspberry leaf tea lately!  It helps prepare your uterus for labor.  I usually drink this brand, but the great taste of this brand is rocking my world!

Since reading this article, I’ve been eating more dates (at least 6 a day) too!  The ones from Fresh Market are the best, but the ones in the pouches at a normal grocery store are good too.

Links to peruse (read all with discernment and your filter on, because I don’t endorse everything written by any of these authors… I liked aspects of each of these posts, but I haven’t read everything else they’ve written):
–Quit Pointing Your Avocado at Me (comparison and motherhood)
–If I Could Do it All Over Again (perspective from a mom with grown children)
–Kate Middleton and the Mom in the Mirror (parts of this article resonated with me currently, but read with discernment, since not all of it is sound wisdom)
–In Which I Thank the Duchess of Cambridge (another sweet post, but I don’t endorse this blog)
–Motherhood is Not for Slackers (our service is unto the Lord!)
–10 Things to Do if You Wake up Feeling Like a Grouch (great, practical ideas here!)
–25 Lessons on Rest and Renewal (on being still… and, p.s. I love this blog)
–What to Wear for Family Photo Sessions (great tips on complementing without being matchy-matchy)

I really enjoyed sharing some of my current favorite things with you last week, so I’m doing it again this week!

I absolutely love this hand soap (available at Target).  It is dye-free, which is awesome, plus it smells amazing!  I love the cute apothecary-style label too.

This pan is my new favorite!!  It is eco-friendly ceramic and it is totally non-stick.  I use it to make perfect fried eggs, omelets, and even crepes!  The size is just right, but I’m thinking about getting a big one too.  I found this at a great price at TJ Maxx.

proof that I can make a perfect fried egg in this pan

I’m obsessed with these rainbow peppercorns from Trader Joe’s.  This pepper blend adds SO much flavor to anything I make!

Since Google Reader and Google Friend Connect are going the way of the dinosaur, I’ve switched over to Feedly and I love it!  It’s a great way to keep up with all of my favorite blogs.  It actually imports your feeds from Google Reader if you’ve been using that.  If you want to continue to get updates from Feathers in Our Nest, definitely check out Feedly and add my blog!  (Top left: click “add content,” search for Feathers in Our Nest, and you’ll be good to go!)

I love my new haircut!  I only end up being able to get a haircut every nine months, so I always feel like a new person when I get one!  My stylist did a great job.

I tried this recipe recently and it turned out great!  It’s very healthy and cheap to make.  We all loved it!

And, lastly, here are some great links for you to peruse this weekend!
– What to Do When You Feel the Heavy Lies of Satan – great reminders of biblical truth
– What to Expect When No One is Expecting – interesting discussion!
– Benefits of Line-Drying – always good to remember the benefits of line-drying, since my dryer is broken so much of the time 😉
– On She {hearts} It this week we’re giving away a pair of $200 Proof Sunglasses, one $140 We-Wood Watch, and a $500 shopping spree to Gretchen Scott Designs!

**While I mentioned several products in this post, I was not compensated in any way to do so.  I purchased most of these things with my own money, and all my opinions are my own!
