New Year, New You: Read Through the Bible

January 10, 2012 by Aliesha

Many Christians resolve to read through the Bible in a year, and while this is a worthy goal, sometimes we get bogged down part way through the year (or fall hopelessly behind in our plan).

I like trying different Bible reading plans, particularly ones that have you read from several different sections of Scripture each day.  (Instead of starting in Genesis and just powering through to Revelation, you may be reading a chapter in Psalms, Genesis, 1 Chronicles, and Luke on a given day.)

I found this great list of Bible reading plans at the start of this year, and it’s not too late to jump on board with one of them!

This year, I’m doing the ESV Bible reading plan.  On this plan, I will read through the entire Bible once, as well as read Psalms, Isaiah, Luke, and Romans twice.  There is a great PDF checklist to help you stay on track (you know I love checking off little boxes!).

Are you doing a Bible reading plan this year?  Tell us about it!

New Year, New You: Read More Books

January 7, 2012 by Aliesha

Last year, I challenged myself and my readers to read 11 books in 2011.  How did you do on the challenge?  I need to post a final recap of the books I finished before the year was out, but my total for the year came to 14 finished books (not counting two books I’m still in the middle of reading).

This year, I am setting some more specific reading goals.  I am aiming to read:
-one book a month (at least), for a total of 12 in 2012
-at least three Christian biographies (a category I’ve been lacking in)
-the unabridged version of Les Miserables (a challenge, but one that I’m looking forward to… and that my husband is joining me in!)
–The Hobbit (of course, in preparation for the movie which comes out in December!)

My sweet hubby gave me a Kindle Fire for Christmas, so I’m looking forward to reading some ebooks on that this year!  It’s a great way to read free public domain books (find them at Amazon, Google, and Gutenberg).  Visiting your public library is another great way to read books for free. 🙂

What are your reading goals for this coming year?  Remember this quote that my mom loves!
