Weekend Update

April 5, 2010 by Aliesha

Thank you all for not giving up on reading this blog even though I didn’t post all weekend! When you hear about our weekend, I think you’ll understand!

Thursday
We woke up Thursday morning to discover a sink upstairs had overflowed all night and leaked through the floor to our first floor. (This was, of course, discovered 30 minutes before we had to leave for an OB/GYN appointment!) We cleaned up as much of the mess as we could and tried to turn of the water (which we were unable to do). That afternoon when we got home, we realized that in addition to the sink problem, there was a totally unrelated other problem. We had about 6 inches of standing water underneath our entire house due to an unknown leak. (This was, of course, discovered shortly after 5pm, when all the local plumbers had stopped working.) Tad was able to get ahold of a plumber who came out and turned our water (and electricity) off completely. He told him we needed to pump all the water out before he could do anything. So, around 7, we headed to Lowe’s (for the second time that day) to buy a pump. We got home just before 9pm and tried to get the pump installed (by flashlight, mind you, since our power was still out). About 9:20 or 9:30 Tad turned the power back on in hopes of getting the pump to start working, which he was not able to do right away. My family arrived from Virginia shortly after 9:30, and we greeted them with the news that we still did not have any water!

Friday
Tad, my dad, and my brothers worked under the house most of the day trying to pump out the water. My mom and I worked on house projects inside. Throughout the day, we did not have water (except for a brief period in the afternoon during which we filled up more jugs of water and washed a few dishes). There were also periods where we didn’t have power either! We still were able to get lots of things done, and we had a nice meal that evening. Later that evening, we got the water back on, so everyone was able to take a shower.Saturday
Mom and I started painting the nursery on Saturday and were able to get a coat of pretty paint on the walls. It’s looking great! Phillip and Tad worked on tilling a garden, and Nich and Dad continued to work on the leak under the house. They all helped with some other miscellaneous projects that we wanted to get done. It was such a blessing to have their help!!Sunday
Easter! We enjoyed getting to worship together at our church on Sunday morning. We had a nice meal together after church and then my family headed home. I crashed and took a 2-hour nap after they left! We had a simple dinner of popcorn and ice cream ๐Ÿ™‚ that night.
House update: We have temporarily stopped the leak under the house until a plumber can come (tomorrow morning) to more permanently fix it. For another unknown reason, we still do not have power in about half the electrical outlets in our house. Tad is trying to fix this himself.

Whew! I think that pretty much sums up our weekend! We learned a lot and are thankful to the Lord for all of his help (especially in sending my family down this weekend when we most needed them)! We are continuing to trust Him as we fix the rest of these issues.

Birthday Festivities

March 5, 2010 by Aliesha

I don’t have lots of pictures from Tad’s birthday festivities yesterday, but I thought I’d share what we did to celebrate.

I made him a yummy breakfast of scrambled eggs with bacon & cheese, an apple cinnamon muffin, apple juice, and coffee.

After our doctor’s appointment where we found out “it” is a “she” (which Tad said was an awesome birthday gift), we went to O’Charley’s for lunch. Tad, of course, got a steak. ๐Ÿ™‚ We shopped a little bit in Greenville for a cute baby outfit and a fun children’ book (and looked around B&N for a little while as well).

When we got home, I realized I hadn’t thawed dinner, so I rushed to get the meatloaf thawed so I could bake it. (Tad requested my meatloaf for his birthday dinner!) Tad opened his birthday cards and packages that had come in the mail while we were gone, and then spent the afternoon installing a new keyboard (a gift from me) for my old Eee PC (the one that drowned in hazelnut coffee last summer). For dinner, we had Tad’s requested menu: Italian meatloaf, garlic and herb mashed potatoes, French bread, and Caesar salads. After dinner, I gave Tad his other birthday presents from me, and we talked to our parents on the phone to make sure they had figured out that our baby is a girl! Then we enjoyed spreading the word to the rest of the world on the blog and on facebook.

Tad received the complete set of Horatio Hornblower movies for his birthday (from my family), so we watched the first one last night! It was very good.We finished off the day with mini brownie/ice cream cakes! It’s so fun to think that next year at this time we’ll have a little seven-month-old baby girl!

It’s a Girl!

March 4, 2010 by Aliesha

We are so excited! We just found out this morning that our little baby-to-come is a beautiful, healthy girl! We would have been completely excited with a boy as well… but imo little girl clothes are more fun to shop for…haha.

After our appointment (see adorable ultrasound picture above), we went to Once Upon a Child to buy a super cute little outfit for our chica. After lunch, of course we had to buy her a little board book as well. We chose the classic by Eric Carle, The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

Our baby is very healthy, and in the ultrasound today we could see all of her major organs and confirm that all is well! The most amazing thing was seeing her heart (all four separate chambers) and marveling at God’s intricacy and design.

Thank you for joining us in our excitement!(Photo of a text message sent from my college roommate and Maid of Honor, Kristin.)
