The Sauder Experience: Dresser to Sideboard

July 3, 2014 by Aliesha

I love furniture that multitasks! I’ve been looking for a dresser for my dining room for a while now, so I was excited to find this pretty piece at Sauder. I also love assembling furniture (is that weird?), so I actually enjoyed the process of assembling my new dresser.

It was fun deciding on the exact piece to order (Sauder has such a great selection!), but I settled pretty quickly on the Soft White Dresser from the Shoal Creek Collection. The soft white matched the other pieces I have in our dining room, and I knew I could use this piece in many ways (not just as a dresser in a bedroom)! I’ve found some fun ways of using dressers (and other pieces of furniture) in unique ways on Pinterest.

Assembling it was very straightforward and I did it in a few hours. The directions were clear and easy to follow, plus all the holes were exactly where they should be and all the hardware was included and easy to identify! I did most of the assembly myself, and even Tad was surprised at how quickly I put it together.

I absolutely love having a dresser sideboard in my dining room now! It’s so nice to have a place to store my table linens, cloth napkins, party supplies, and more. It’s fun to have a new surface to decorate as well!

In addition to being perfect for storage, a dresser sideboard is wonderful for serving a buffet dinner! Although these pictures don’t show any food, I was picturing in my mind (right to left) beverages, bread sticks, lasagna, and salad.

It will be fun to see the different ways I can use this beautiful piece of furniture! I’ll be sharing more ways of styling it in the future!
This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Sauder. The opinions and text are all mine.

Styled Dining Room Hutch

January 27, 2014 by Aliesha

Last week I reorganized my dining room hutch, where I store many of my entertaining pieces.  It was a mess, and things weren’t accessible (see below: favorite “company” plates buried on the bottom left).

Before

I started by taking everything off the shelves and wiping them down with a wet rag.  Anything that was a bit dusty I also wiped down.  Most things were fine, since I use these things on a pretty regular basis for serving, taking blog pictures, etc.

After

I grouped things in a way that makes sense to me and looks pretty too.  My most frequently used plates are now on the bottom, front and center.  My pretty blue bird cake stand has a prominent place (can you even spot it in the before picture?) and some of my other pretty pieces are now more visible.

I even made room for a few new things (like the blue bird butter dish) since I put a couple things down below or in other locations.

I enjoy using white dishes as my starting point… that way, I can “accessorize” with fun colors (aqua-blue and green, currently)!

It feels good to organize things, plus a nicely styled shelf is so fun to look at.

Simple Fall Centerpiece

October 21, 2013 by Aliesha

Confession: I haven’t decorated my home for fall as much as I typically do.  My mantle is still the same as it has been for months!  This year with having a newborn, I just haven’t prioritized decorating.

But I have done a few small things, such as creating this very simple fall centerpiece!  If I can do this with a newborn, a toddler, and a preschooler, you can too!

I just took a rectangular baking dish (but any shallow vessel, such as a basket or tray would work) and filled it with crinkley paper that recently came in a box I ordered (you could also use burlap or fabric).  Then I layered in some sweet little white pumpkins ($.69 each at Trader Joe’s) and some pinecones (free) for added dimension.

I set the centerpiece on a placemat on the dining room table and called it a day!

There are so many different ways you could adapt this, such as using gourds, berries, leaves, or anything else “fallish”!

Happy simple decorating!
