What We’re Using for Easter Family Devotions

March 22, 2020 by Aliesha

We’re planning on taking a break from our regular family devotions for a few weeks, and we’re planning on doing special Easter family devotions for the two weeks leading up to Easter Sunday!

Easter Family Devotions | Feathers in Our Nest

This year we decided to use The Garden the Curtain and the Cross and the accompanying resources!

1 – The Garden the Curtain and the Cross
This is the picture book (which is totally gorgeous, by the way) that tells the story of Easter. It’s so theologically rich and Gospel centered!

Easter Family Devotions | Calendar and Family Bible Devotional | Feathers in Our Nest

2 – The Easter Calendar
This is a 15-day calendar to open, as an “advent” of sorts leading up to Easter, with beautiful illustrations from the picture book. It comes with a…

3 – Family Bible Devotional
…included with the calendar. Each day has readings for us to do together, Bible passages to look at, object lessons, and discussion questions. It’s going to be perfect for our kids!

4 – Activity Books
These are just for fun… filled with coloring pages, activity sheets, word searches, and more. I thought the kids would enjoy getting to do them as part of our family devotions. Most likely the coloring pages will help the younger ones focus better while Daddy is reading.

Easter Family Devotions | Activity Books | Feathers in Our Nest

We’re so excited to dig into these resources, starting on March 29 (you read one devotion each day leading up to and including Easter)! If you’d like to do this with your family, you can most likely still order the books in time to start on the correct date (thanks, Amazon prime).

Gospel Centered Books for Older Kids

March 6, 2020 by Aliesha

Gospel Centered Books for Older Kids | Feathers in Our Nest

This is the final post in this week’s series on Gospel centered resources for families (catch up on the other posts here, here, and here), and today I’m sharing about Gospel centered books for older kids! As always, I’d love to hear what other great books you’d add to this list!

Everything a Child Should Know about God| Gospel Centered Books for Older Kids | Feathers in Our Nest

Everything a Child Should Know about God was of the first “devotionals” my girls started reading on their own in the mornings. The text is simple and straightforward, but the theological principles are big! It’s a very approachable book for a newly independent reader.

Everyone a Child Should Know about God| Gospel Centered Books for Older Kids | Feathers in Our Nest

As a first introduction to heroes of the faith, your kids will enjoy reading Everyone a Child Should Know. Like the others in the series, it’s quite easy to read!

What Every Child Should Know about Prayer| Gospel Centered Books for Older Kids | Feathers in Our Nest

The newest book we grabbed in this series is What Every Child Should Know about Prayer. Nancy Guthrie authored this one, and my girls have been reading it this year!

For Such a Time as This| Gospel Centered Books for Older Kids | Feathers in Our Nest

For Such a Time as This includes beautiful illustrations and stories about many different women in the Bible. My girls really like this one!

Little Pilgrims Progress| Gospel Centered Books for Older Kids | Feathers in Our Nest

Little Pilgrim’s Progress is an adaptation for kids, and it makes the classic story approachable even for younger readers. You could read this aloud as a family, or your readers (8+) could read it on their own. If you’re looking for the unabridged original, this illustrated edition looks stunning!

Hinds Feet on High Places| Gospel Centered Books for Older Kids | Feathers in Our Nest

I treasure this classic book, and I am so glad my kids can read Hinds Feet on High Places in this adapted children’s edition. If you’ve never read it, you need to! It’s a beautiful allegory of the Christian life, and I honestly prefer it to Pilgrim’s Progress. I’m super tempted to snag this beautiful edition as well.

Hero Tales | Gospel Centered Books for Older Kids | Feathers in Our Nest

This is a classic… I remember my parents reading Hero Tales (and volumes II and III as well) to us at bedtime when we were kids! These books are so inspiring, and they challenge us in our faith as we read about other Christians who have walked before us!

The Radical Book for Kids| Gospel Centered Books for Older Kids | Feathers in Our Nest

I thought my son would really love the Radical Book for Kids, so I gave it to him for Christmas! He’s really enjoyed reading through it this year so far. In fact when I borrowed it to take these pictures, he immediately wanted it back so he could read it in his afternoon quiet time!

Exploring the Bible | Gospel Centered Books for Older Kids | Feathers in Our Nest

A few Christmases ago I gave this Bible reading plan to my oldest daughter, and it’s such a cool book! Exploring the Bible guides your older reader through studying Scripture in depth, while still making it very approachable to open God’s Word each day!

Acts: a Visual Guide | Gospel Centered Books for Older Kids | Feathers in Our Nest

Currently, my oldest is using Acts: a Visual Guide for her morning devotions. It’s a very unique format with TONS of information on each page, displayed in an infographic format.

Are your readers using any of these resources? Have you found others like them? I’d love to hear what your family has loved!

Feel free to share this post with a friend or PIN it for later!

Gospel Centered Story Bibles

March 4, 2020 by Aliesha

Gospel Centered Story Bibles | Feathers in Our Nest

In addition to our picture book collection, we also have lots of Gospel centered story Bibles and Bible adaptations in our home library as well!

Jesus Storybook Bible | Gospel Centered Story Bibles | Feathers in Our Nest

Hands-down, our favorite is the Jesus Storybook Bible! This is the most beautiful retelling of the overall story of the Bible–every story whispers HIS name! We love it!

Thoughts to Make Your Heart Sing | Gospel Centered Story Bibles | Feathers in Our Nest

By the same author as the above title, Thoughts to Make Your Heart Sing is another beautiful book that we love to read to our kids!

Found | Gospel Centered Story Bibles | Feathers in Our Nest

We also love this beautiful retelling of Psalm 23 for younger readers, called Found! The illustrations are lovely and our kids have really enjoyed this title.

Psalms | Gospel Centered Story Bibles | Feathers in Our Nest

Psalms for Young Children is another great one! It’s good for helping our children understand how they also can express their emotions to God!

The Biggest Story | Gospel Centered Story Bibles | Feathers in Our Nest

This is another amazing retelling of the big story of Scripture! The Biggest Story: How the Snake Crusher Brings us Back to the Garden is gorgeous and powerful! I enjoy it as much as my kids!

Mighty Acts of God | Gospel Centered Story Bibles | Feathers in Our Nest

Mighty Acts of God is directed for kids who are a bit older than the above-mentioned resources, and it’s really nice for reading before bed!

The Beginners Gospel Story Bible | Gospel Centered Story Bibles | Feathers in Our Nest

We just added the Beginner’s Gospel Story Bible to our home library at Christmas, but the kids have been enjoying it! My son has been reading it in his afternoon rest time, which is neat to see!

Honorable mention: The Big Picture Story Bible! We literally wore out our copy! But we still love listening to the audio version on Audible!

I’d love to hear in the comments… does your family have any of these story Bibles? Or do you have a different one that you love reading with your kids? Tell me down below!

And feel free to save this post for later, or share it with a friend who would love these resources too!
