Updated House Tour: Master Bedroom

June 7, 2014 by Aliesha

It’s been forever since I updated our house tour page, so I’m going to start working on that!

First up, here is our master bedroom as it looked this morning.

When we walk in our bedroom, I want it to feel like a haven, and like a peaceful place that isn’t filled with junk or kids toys.  (I know, high standards.)  We got our headboard this spring, and it’s been so nice for reading in bed or nursing Jude!  I don’t know how we did without it!

Since we just moved Jude into his own room, we had to do some switcheroos.  My dresser became his new dresser, and I got this one.  The room he moved into was our office, so my desk and computer moved into our room.

I like keeping my dresser clear of miscellaneous things so I can display pretty things on it!

I think I’ll probably keep my desk area more organized and clutter-free since it’s in our bedroom now.

I am planning on painting this chair… but what color?  I was initially planning on white, but maybe black would be nice?  My mom made the pretty coffee filter wreath on the closet door.  I bought these lamps before we were married and I knew I would love them always.

Our bedroom gets soft light (filtered through the bushes outside the window) throughout the day, which gives the room such a peaceful feel.

Tad’s dresser is on the other side of the room.

A fan in the spring/summer/fall is a MUST in Eastern NC!  I love this pretty bird pillow that a sweet friend gave me!

The small details around the room make me smile.

This artwork is from Charleston (where we honeymooned).

Thanks for stopping by for this “tour” today!  I’ll be photographing other rooms as I get the opportunity.

Living Room {New Paint Job!}

December 16, 2013 by Aliesha

Our living room has a new look!

This is what the room looked like right before it was painted:

But this is what it looked like the last time I took “house tour” photos of it:

Notice how everything was the same color?  The gorgeous mantle and trim didn’t stand out at all, since it was cream on cream.  We tried using brown under the chair rail but didn’t like how it looked.

Tad’s dad graciously offered to come down and paint the living room for us while we were out of town, and he did a great job!

The trim really pops out from the walls now.

The color we used on the walls is Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter color matched into Olympic no-VOC at Lowe’s in satin finish.  The trim is semi-gloss white Olympic no-VOC straight off the shelf.

Pay no attention to the wrinkled curtains. 🙂  I still need to iron/hem them!  I wanted to hang them up first and make sure I wanted to keep them (they are the Ikea Vivan curtains – the only ones long enough!).  This blue couch is new (to us).  It was a $100 Craigslist score (but it’s Pottery Barn and similar to this one, but longer)!  The Lord really blessed us by allowing us to get such a good price on it!

I looooove the amazing detail on our front windows, and the lovely light that comes in through the big window on the front door!  I’m thinking about adding a film or something to give us a little more privacy, though.

Our mantle really stands out now and you can see all the amazing details in the woodwork!

I still need to paint the French door going into the dining room, but do you see it has 15 panes?  It’s going to take a while!

The wardrobe in the corner is very old and came with our house.  The coffee table came from Goodwill a while ago.

The brown striped couch and love seat were also Craiglist finds ($40 for both together).  The door shown here goes to the girls’ room.  The hooks on the wall are from Ikea.

I still have this little table (a yardsale find) by the front door.

We haven’t put anything else back up on the walls yet (I was scurrying to take these photos before we decorated for Christmas and put the tree up!), but I’m thinking about doing a wall of family photos!

Nursery Tour!

January 27, 2012 by Aliesha

I’ve posted bits and pieces about our new nursery, but I decided it was time to post about the whole room!  We love how the room turned out.  There are still more things we plan on doing in there as time goes on, but for now, we’re quite pleased with it!

Longtime blog readers will recognize many DIY projects from Vera’s nursery, which we moved to a different room so we could accommodate both chickadees.  For a full list of those projects (with links to how-to’s), visit our original nursery reveal post.

We plan on hanging Vera’s quilt behind her crib, so that’s why there isn’t anything on that wall at the moment.

I love this little corner… so happy and colorful!  It will be perfect for cuddling, reading, and nursing.

I already shared the hoop art that we made for above Mango’s crib.  It’s still one of my favorite parts of the nursery!

Currently, Vera’s baby doll is demonstrating where Baby Mango will sleep.  Vera helps tuck her doll into bed several times a day, and also enjoys changing the tiny cloth diapers that I made for her.

We “made” a closet in one corner of the room using spring rods and curtains.  There is a LOT of space in there, especially since baby clothes are so little!

We also have a beautiful dresser to use too.

We hung a big mirror above the dresser next to the kite hairbow holder I made for bow storage.  I love that the mirror reflects so many colorful things!

This corner is the “play” corner and is not finished yet.  I hope this area can be used for toy storage and the table can be used for art/craft projects in the future.  I also hope to decorate these two corner wall in a gallery style, with lots of framed pictures of the girls as well as some fun art.

Of course I can’t leave out the bird mobile hanging above the changing table!  I made this for Vera’s nursery two years ago and I love it just as much now as I did then.  Vera adores it too, and it works as a great distraction for her while we change her diaper.  I thought by putting it over the changing table, both girls could enjoy it.

I made pink houndstooth shades for the room to add a pop of color since I was using white curtains. (IKEA Vivan curtains are the only ones I’ve found that are long enough for our massively high ceilings!)  I hemmed the fabric to the right width, then attached it to the old roller shade roll using hot glue and a staple gun.

Like I said, there are still a few more things we’d like to do in the nursery, but for now we are thankful for all we’ve been able to accomplish in just a couple of weeks!  The painting of the room took us much longer than we were expecting, but we are so pleased with the results.

This is what the room looked like BEFORE (when we moved into the house), so I think we’ve come a long way, baby!

AFTER!
