Little Gifts

June 30, 2011 by Aliesha

I was able to go to Youth Camp last summer and be a chaperone for our girls, but unfortunately I was not able to go this summer because Vera couldn’t go.  I was disappointed about not attending, so I put together some little gifts for our youth girls who went.

I made them little zippered pouches and put some other small goodies inside.  I wanted them to know I still cared about them even though I couldn’t be there this year!

Do the fabrics look familiar?

Navy & White Striped Skirt

June 22, 2011 by Aliesha

I’m really getting back into sewing these days!  This past weekend I made a navy & white striped skirt using an adapted tutorial found here. (There were some problems with the measurements in the tutorial, so I had to make a few changes. I think she has updated her instructions and they are now correct.)

I got about four yards of this fabric from Ikea for $1.99 (from the As Is section), and I used less than a yard, so it was very affordable to make (I just had to buy some $.99 elastic)!

It looks super cute with a t-shirt and flip-flops, but I also recently dressed it up a little more for church! It will be really fun to wear this summer.

I put cute yellow pockets in it, which I love!  They are like a little secret only I know about (well, now everyone who reads my blog knows too, but I’m okay with that).

Let me know if you make one too!

Gathered Clutch

June 8, 2011 by Aliesha

This gathered clutch tutorial has been floating blogs and Pinterest a lot lately (and everyone and their mother added it to their “to make” pinboards), and I have been wanting to make one as well.  Today I finally made a clutch with this tutorial!

the back

The tutorial is very clear and the pictures are very helpful, but I would suggest it for intermediate seamstresses (know basic things like how to use your zipper foot, etc.) because some steps can get a little tricky.  But it is very fun and relatively quick to make!

inside, it is lined and there are two card pockets

I’m pleased with how it turned out and can’t wait to make another (have plenty of fabric… just need more zippers)!
