The Lifegiving Table Book

The Lifegiving Table book review | Feathers in Our Nest

Last month, a new book released by one of my favorite authors and speakers, Sally Clarkson! Her books have spoken life to my heart during so many challenging seasons of motherhood, and I anxiously awaited the arrival of her latest book, The Lifegiving Table! This book is about the ministry that happens around your table in your home each day, and how to reclaim that time for discipleship and kingdom purposes. Lifegiving Table book review | Feathers in Our Nest

If you want to learn more about this book, you can watch the trailer below!

Doesn’t that freshly baked bread make you want to bake RIGHT NOW?

Last month we had a delightful afternoon tea time (me + the three oldest) where we enjoyed freshly baked scones, apple butter, clotted cream, and fall herbal teas. It was a sweet time of connection and conversation… much needed in the midst of a busy season of adding a new baby to our family! I would love to make Sunday afternoon tea a regular part of our family routine at least once a month!

God has given us all different strengths and passions, but rest assured that table time discipleship can happen with a wild crew feasting on pizza off of paper plates, or at a sweet little tea party for two. When we make those moments of eating together times of intentionality, we are able to pour God’s love and truth into our children.  In doing so, we impact their lives eternally.

The Lifegiving Table includes many Clarkson family recipes, each one a delicious tried-and-true recipe for feasting together and showing hospitality. We’ve already made a few (the scones and clotted cream), and we can’t wait to try more!

I loved this quote from the book:

When New Books Arrive

Usborne Books & More Homeschooling Unboxing Video | Feathers in Our Nest

My kids are obsessed with books and reading, and one of the really amazing blessings we’ve experienced this year is my growing business as an Independent Consultant for Usborne Books & More!  I fell in love with the books and wanted to get them ALL, so after spending a good bit of money at friends’ book parties, I decided to sign up as a consultant so I could earn books for my children for free (plus get a paycheck)!

Since joining in January I’ve earned hundreds of dollars in free books, and I can’t even tell you how blessed that makes me feel!  The kids are learning SO much through these fascinating and interactive books, and I love seeing their faces when new books arrive!

Yesterday we got a big box of books to use in our homeschool this year… mostly history and science books!  If you homeschool also, I can help you find books to supplement your studies this year!

They all got so excited when they saw the box on the porch!

Here’s the unboxing video so you can see what was inside the box!

And here are their final thoughts:

We love raising children who love reading!!!

If you’d like to learn more about where to buy these amazing books or how to earn them for free (whether through hosting an online party with your friends OR by becoming a consultant), I’d love to send you some more information! Email me (and you have my word that I won’t be pushy…haha)! 🙂

Currently Reading

July 11, 2017 by Aliesha

I love seeing what books my friends are reading, so today I thought I’d share a couple of books I’m loving lately!

Currently Reading: The Turquoise Table | Feathers in Our NestI just finished reading The Turquoise Table by Kristin Schell and I loved it! Whenever a new book on hospitality comes out, I always try to read it! This book is a quick read, but it’s so inspiring! Love how pretty the cover is as well.

Currently Reading: Parenting | Feathers in Our Nest
This week I started reading Parenting by Paul David Tripp. You guys, it’s just the BEST parenting book I’ve ever read, and I’m not even finished with it! Rather than be focused on externals (as so many parenting books can be), Tripp demonstrates in very practical ways how the Gospel shapes our parenting every day.

I’m re-reading one of my favorite marriage books, Fierce Women by Kimberly Wagner. I love this book and it’s challenged me SO much in my role as a wife!

I also wanted to mention that we’re reading God’s Names by Sally Michael as our morning devotional before we begin our schoolwork. I love how deep it is, while still being on my kids’ levels and not being too long! There are a bunch more in the series, and we got this one to read next.

For our first read aloud for school this year, we’re reading Red Sails to Capri, and the children are also listening to the audio book version of The Trumpet of the Swan!

A few weeks ago I finally had to replace my first generation Amazon Kindle Fire (now just called Amazon Fire). It lasted a long time… five years? I chose this one, and I’m so happy with it!
