How I Do More Knowing My Children Are Safe

June 26, 2014 by Aliesha

My children can be “little monkeys” at times when they are supposed to be napping, getting out of their cribs, undressing and playing in their diapers, making messes, and more. When Vera first transitioned to a toddler bed, she repeatedly got out of her bed when she was supposed to be sleeping to enjoy her newfound freedom. Cordelia likes to take her clothes off during naptime. And Jude occasionally gets a foot stuck in the crib slats.

With all of these “shenanigans” going on, naptimes were not especially restful! I was constantly darting in and out of bedrooms putting people back in their beds, tucking them in again, and cleaning up messes.

I was sent a Levana Keera Video Monitor to review, and it has completely transformed naptimes and bedtime at our house!

Beyond just making sure the girls haven’t gotten into trouble, I am able to know that they (and Jude as well) are safe. The Levana Keera has two video cameras that connect to one hand-held, wireless monitor, allowing me to keep a close eye on both rooms at once. You can even connect up to four cameras! It’s easy to use and intuitive.

The monitor features 2-way voice communication, so I can soothe Jude, instruct Vera to stop climbing on the side of the crib, or tell CC I’ll be there in just a minute. I can adjust the volume level on each of the cameras in the kids’ rooms so I can hear them or just watch with no volume on.

The cameras can zoom in and pan around the room easily, which is a great feature since the kids’ rooms are so big. The cameras also have night view (the light level is sensed automatically – no need to manually set it) so I can see the kids perfectly even when their rooms are pitch black.

I can also play music for the kids (the girls love this feature) and see both screens at the same time if I want to. There’s even a way to take photos of your child sleeping sweetly or to grab a quick video as well. The fact that the monitor is wireless is a great feature, because it allows me to carry it with me around the house and still be able to watch the display.

The ClearVu digital wireless technology used in this system is hack-proof, providing even more peace of mind using this monitor. Levana has thought of everything with the Keera monitor!

During naptimes now, I am free to work on projects, catch up on chores, write blog posts, read, and rest. I can do more because I know my kids are safe!

You also have a chance to win a Levana Keera Monitor of your own! Just use the Rafflecopter widget below to enter (very bottom of this post).

DIY Cloth Baby Wipes

November 6, 2013 by Aliesha

Since we use cloth diapers, it was a natural progression for us to start using cloth wipes.  I needed to make some new ones recently, so I made a tutorial for you in case you want to make some as well!  Cloth wipes are easy to use if you’re already using cloth diapers… just roll them up with the diaper and wash with the diapers!  They save a ton of money over disposables wipes, since you can use them over and over again until they wear out.

I made mine using a flannel receiving blanket we were given at the hospital, but you could buy flannel if you don’t have any on hand. Using pinking shears means you don’t have to hem them – yay!

Cut the flannel into even squares, each approximately the size of a normal baby wipe.  To make them all the same size, fold the fabric first to see how many you will get out of it.  I cut my fabric into four strips lengthwise first.

Then I cut each strip into six squares.

Stack ’em up, and you’re done!

You can use warm water alone, but I like to make a wipes solution (I like these). You can make all different kinds of wipes solutions… just google around for one you like.  Also, when my girls have had rashes in the past, I soaked their cloth wipes in water and apple cider vinegar before using them.  It helps clear up the rash!
