Every Grain of Sand Wall Art

April 24, 2010 by Aliesha

I found a beautiful piece of driftwood (actually more like a weathered fence board) that was just begging me to paint something on it! I knew I wanted to put it somewhere in our beach bathroom, but I couldn’t come up with anything creative to paint on it. (“Life is a beach” didn’t seem quite what I was looking for.) Tad suggested I paint “every grain of sand” on it, from the song by the same title. Now, every time we look at the sign, we are reminded of these lyrics:

Then onward in my journey
I have come to understand
That every hair is numbered
like every grain of sand
…
I am hanging in the balance
of a perfect finished plan
Like every sparrow falling,
like every grain of sand.
{Bob Dylan / Derek Webb}

As an added bonus, this project was essentially free, since I used found wood and acrylic paint and a brush I already had.

I might leave the sign where it is, but I am also contemplating hanging it above one of the doors. We’ll see!

Week Twenty-Five

April 23, 2010 by Aliesha

To compare with last week’s photo, click here.

Apparently our baby girl has taken up kick-boxing! She’s so so so active all the time and we just love getting to feel her movements. She responds to our voices (she loves her Daddy’s voice) and to music (she loves all kinds!). My laptop is balanced on my lap right now and every few seconds she kicks and my laptop bounces!

Baby girl is approximately 1.5 pounds and 13.5 inches long (hard to believe!). I think she’s supposed to double in size by the end of the sixth month.

Tad and I were talking today about how I haven’t had a lot of food cravings. From the very beginning I had food aversions (I think I didn’t eat chicken for about 2 months), but my cravings have been minimal and not too weird… yet.

This week I haven’t slept great, but I used my body pillow last night (I had gotten out of the habit) and that helped a ton. I just have some trouble falling asleep at first even though I’m tired. I usually wake up twice each night to use the bathroom, but I can always fall back asleep quickly.

I’ve had several total strangers ask when I am due or how far along I am, so I officially look pregnant now! One lady said she thought I was carrying a boy (which I think is a compliment) and said she could tell it was my first baby. It’s fun wearing clothes that highlight my little bump!

House Tour: Guest Bedroom

April 23, 2010 by Aliesha

We are blessed to have two guest rooms in our house right now, though we know that as more children enter our family we may not always have this luxury! For now, it is really nice to have this extra room since our families live several hours away.

We lovingly call this guest room “The Lavender Room” (can you guess why?). We will still be adding more things to the room in the future, and we will definitely be getting rid of the drab curtains!
full-sized bed on one side of the room (frame loaned from Andrea)
amenities (lotions, etc.) and monogrammed towels (from Stephanie)
twin-sized “day bed” on the other side of the room
nightstand (I love English ivy!)
chair and guest notebook (filled with helpful information and local attraction fliers)
