Fitbit Sisters

February 3, 2016 by Aliesha

Fitbit Sisters: How we challenge and motivate one anotherHey, Fitbit sister. I see you over there, being active, running hard, and giving this a go. You weren’t sure if you’d stick with this exercise thing, but you’re doing it.

You could be lounging on the couch watching Netflix, but instead you’re seizing every moment today to be active, not just for you, but for your family.

When I see you moving, it inspires me to move too.  On the days I want to kick back once I hit my daily goal, there you are, climbing a few more stairs and earning a couple more badges. You challenge me.

I see you too, Fitbit sister. When you started you were struggling to hit 5K steps a day. I’ve been there. But, look at you now! You’re hitting 10K steps a day (even if it means walking around your house in circles before bed to reach your goal… been there too). You inspire me.

And I see you also, Fitbit sister. Life’s pretty hard right now for a lot of reasons, but you’re still working hard and doing what you can do in this season. I admire you.

Each of you, sweet Fitbit sisters, motivate and challenge me in unique ways.  Most of all I love having you as friends in real life, but I also love that now we’re Fitbit sisters.

We’re in this together.

Floral Hymn Art Prints – NOW in Etsy Shop!

February 1, 2016 by Aliesha

Jesus Is Better Art Print

I just added (five minutes ago!) some brand new hymn art prints in my etsy shop!  I picked some of my favorite hymns and songs and used gorgeous, bright watercolor florals!

There are seven art prints in the collection, and I have a hard time picking a favorite (though I think I’ll have to go with “Jesus Is Better,” pictured above)!

View all of them right here.

DIY Aftershave Balm

January 29, 2016 by Aliesha

DIY Aftershave BalmOver a year ago, Tad started using shaving soap, a brush, and a safety razor instead of an electric razor.  He loves this method (very manly).  Here’s what he uses: razor / stand / brush. We buy the soap here, but I made the pre-shave oil and the aftershave balm myself.  The pre-shave oil is a mixture of equal parts castor oil and olive oil, but I will share the recipe for the aftershave balm today!

Aftershave balm soothes the skin after shaving and makes the skin so soft.  It’s wonderful for providing relief if there are any little nicks from shaving.

This balm is really a lotion, and it’s not just for men!  It’s lovely for legs after shaving too!

You can add essential oils to this if you want.  Really nice additions would be sandalwood, rosemary, frankincense, or eucalyptus. DIY Aftershave Balm

Soothing to the skin after shaving, this aftershave balm is easy to make (and nice for legs as well as the face)!
Author: Aliesha @ Feathers in Our Nest
Ingredients
  • ⅓ cup shea butter
  • ⅓ cup coconut oil
  • ¼ cup olive oil
Instructions
  1. Combine ingredients in a quart mason jar. Place jar inside a heavy saucepan or pot filled with a few inches of water.
  2. Heat water on stovetop, stirring mixture inside jar until it is fully melted.
  3. Remove from heat and pour mixture (Carefully! Jar will be hot!) into the base of a stand mixer or a metal mixing bowl.
  4. Chill in the fridge until it is opaque in color but still soft. (Think, consistency of Crisco.)
  5. Whip the mixture for several minutes with a stand or hand mixer. It should resemble frosting.
  6. Add any essential oils desired (suggested: sandalwood, rosemary, frankincense, or eucalyptus) and whip again.
  7. Ready to use right away! Store in a glass jar.
