Dug Down Deep

March 19, 2012 by Aliesha

We just finished studying a great book with some of our youth called Dug Down Deep: Building Your Life on Truths that Last by Joshua Harris.  The newest edition (paperback) comes with a group discussion guide in the back of the book.

This book is a theology primer and was perfect for teaching our kids about the study of God and why it matters.  Each chapter discusses a different theological principle and its significance in our lives.

While it is simple enough for high-schoolers to understand, this book is not “watered-down” in any way.  Tad and I both gleaned a lot from it personally as we studied it in order to teach it!

Here’s a quick promo video (that’s pretty fun to watch) that explains more about the book:

We had four students go through the book with us (two of them are pictured above), with a couple of visitors now and then too.  We met on Saturday mornings over breakfast and many times some of the youth stayed to hang out long after the study itself was over!  We treasure times like those.

Tad and I both highly recommend Dug Down Deep either for personal study or for a small group discussion!  It would also make a great gift for graduates.

Mothers

March 16, 2012 by Aliesha

*These photos are from a few weeks ago, so if it looks like Cordelia got smaller, that’s why. 🙂

Living so far from our families is hard.  It could be worse… we could live even farther away!  We are blessed that both of our families live close enough that they can come visit (and we can visit them) on a pretty regular basis.  But it’s still hard on a daily and weekly basis to be apart from them!

Both my mom and Tad’s mom came to stay for a few days (at different times) after Cordelia was born.  We were tremendously blessed by their service to our family while they were here!

My mom was here for Cordelia’s birth and she stayed to help with Vera for a few days afterwards too.  She was an incredible support and encouragement to me in labor!  Vera had such a good time with her, though she did her best to try and wear out her Mimi!  They played together lots and Vera loved all of the one-on-one attention!  My mom also helped make meals for us while she was here, which was such a blessing.

A few days after my mom went home, Tad’s mom came to visit!  (She and Tad’s dad came to see Cordelia at the hospital the day she was born.)  Vera had tons of fun going on walks with her Grammy, putting stickers in her sticker book, and playing with glowsticks on the porch after dark.  Tad’s mom helped us so much and we enjoyed her fantastic cooking and the great fellowship each night over coffee.

We were so sad to see both our moms go back home, but we were truly thankful for the sweet time we got to spend with them!

“Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all. Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.”
