Week Forty-One

September 9, 2013 by Aliesha

Still pregnant, making me now 9 days “overdue”!  I don’t take pictures after 40 weeks, for obvious reasons.  Trust me, you wouldn’t believe how big my belly was if you saw it!  I’m now almost 41 inches around my widest point!

Edit: Here’s a cell-phone-quality picture, because it was requested!

Other than being really, really ready to have a baby, I’ve had a better week physically, maybe because it has cooled down slightly.  I was able to get outside a couple days and actually enjoy it without being oppressed by the heat!  I’ve been sleeping well and staying hydrated as best as I can.

Tad has been so sweet and helpful this week so I’ve been able to rest and prepare for having the baby.  He’s been such a huge support to me and I’m so thankful for him!!

This morning I met with a doctor at my practice (I LOVE her) and she was so patient with me wanting labor to start on its own without being induced.  Baby Punkin’ passed the non-stress test and the ultrasound tests with flying colors.  He is very active, his heart rate is good, and my amniotic fluid levels are fine.  My blood pressure looks good too!  Because he’s doing so well, my doctor did not schedule an induction yet (again, so thankful for this particular doctor!).  She wants me to come back on Friday if I haven’t gone into labor, and we’ll proceed from there.

I’m really trusting that God has a perfect time for our baby boy to be born.  Keep praying for patience for all of us as we wait!  Believe me, no one wants this baby to come tonight more than I do!

He looked so sweet and cuddly on the ultrasound today… so, yes, I can’t wait to hold him!

Now I’ve never had kids so forgive my ignorance, but I always thought people were concerned about letting pregnancies go “too far” past the due date because the baby would get too big for a vaginal delivery? Is your Punkin on the smaller side so your doc isn’t so worried about that? Regardless, best of luck with everything, so excited for pictures! (I’m a lurker :))

Thanks for commenting, Charlotte! Punkin’ measured around 7 lbs. 13 oz. during his ultrasound today (though there is a margin of error since he’s not on the outside yet!), so they aren’t concerned about size. It’s actually pretty rare for a mom to be induced because the baby is “getting too big,” unless of course there are other issues. Usually the concern over pregnancies going “too far” has more to do with the level of amniotic fluid, the health of the placenta, the baby’s heart rate and movement, the mother’s blood pressure, and the possible presence of meconium in the amniotic sac (and concern over the baby inhaling it). If, as far as they can tell, everything looks normal and healthy, many practitioners are willing to let women go to 42 weeks, though not usually much past that. πŸ™‚

    My dear girlie–
I agree with the above posts—you do look wonderful! More importantly, you are a great witness to us all of trust in the LORD and in His timing for the circumstances of our lives…something we are all (probably!) needing to grow in. How do people live their lives when they don’t know the ONE who is in control of everything and who is orchestrating ALL THINGS for their good?! So glad you know Him and are trusting Him. He will not fail you! Love you bunches! Mom/MiMi–whose bags are packed…ready to meet this sweet little guy!

Hooray! A picture! Thanks for including that. πŸ™‚ I happen to think you still look splendid! πŸ™‚

I’ve been thinking of you often and praying for all the details of this labor and delivery to come together beautifully…so that you and others will see God’s unmistakable hand in it. I’m so excited for you! πŸ™‚

This is Friday morning, and I just wanted to let you know you’ve been on my mind this week, and very much so today. I’m praying for you and your baby. My deepest desire and biggest prayer request is that you have a safe delivery and a healthy baby. (I’m not scared or anything, I just know how big of a life event this is!) May God bless you!
