Laundry Tip: Lemon Juice to Brighten Whites

September 2, 2010 by Aliesha

Instead of using bleach to brighten my white laundry, I use lemon juice. I have found it to be very effective! Anytime I wash a load of whites, I add a splash of lemon juice. I also use lemon juice as a spot-treatment or pre-soak for stains. It works beautifully… and it’s all-natural! I buy my lemon juice in large bottles at the dollar store, so it’s very affordable as well.

Do you have any laundry tips to share?

That’s a great tip. Another way to get rid of stains is to put the lemon juice on wet items and put them in the sun! Natural stain remover πŸ™‚

I try to stay very natural with all of my cleaning products, foods, makeup, etc. My current laundry detergent, and my favorite from all that I have tried, is Rockin’ Green Cloth Diaper Detergent. That stuff is amazing πŸ™‚ Though it is NOT a stain remover, so pre-soaking or spot treating is necessary.

If you ever wonder what’s in your cosmetics and skin/hair care products, you can check out Skin Deep http://cosmeticsdatabase.com

You might be surprised what it is in your baby products too πŸ™‚

Awesome! I have NEVER heard this before!!!

My MIL told me that the sun will help with stains. Especially cloth diapers! πŸ™‚

    Congrats on your new one!

Thanks for the great tip. I don’t like to use bleach unless absolutely necessary and so I’ve been using vinegar, but lemon juice smells much better than vinegar.
