Laundry Makeover

November 5, 2010 by Aliesha

Our house does not have a laundry room, per se, but we do have a small laundry closet in the kitchen that is just big enough to hold a stacked washer and dryer.  Since moving in, I have tried to be creative in my use of the space.  My brother helped me install wire shelves inside the left wall of the closet.  Last weekend I made a few more changes I want to share!

The laundry area had heavy wooden bifold doors concealing it.  We removed them and hung a springrod and a white Ikea Vivan curtain instead.  (Yes, Mom, I hemmed it myself!)  I tied it back with a sage green ribbon, but we can always pull it shut if need be.

I added a little black and white rug ($1 at Dollar Tree!) to help separate the space from the rest of the room (though the black and white still coordinates with the kitchen).

I added vinyl (peel-off) letters to my dryer ($1 at Dollar Tree) that say “Live well, Laugh often, Love much.”

By removing the bifold doors, I now can slide my drying rack into the closet when it’s folded up and I am not using it to dry cloth diapers.

Here’s the overall new look!  With diapers:

Without diapers:

Ta-da!  A laundry “room” makeover for $8.50!

Great job, Sweetie!! You are “making lemonade with lemons”–though, certainly, many women throughout the workd would LOVE your/my conveniences!
I love the lettering on the dryer–will remind you to take joy in the mundane. I like the photo WITH dipaers the best cuz it reminds me of the sweet little baby who needs those. I love you…and her BUNCHES!!!

I think it’s so important to decorate EVERY part of your house to make it inviting and make those (possibly less than pleasant) tasks more enjoyable. You’ve done a great job with that here! Thanks for linking up to TPoTP!

Hi, I’m hopping over from Tatertots and Jello. I would have NEVER thought to put vinyl on a dryer. This looks so great!

    Warmly, Michelle
