Baby, It’s Cold Outside!

December 14, 2010 by Aliesha

Unrelated picture.  Just doing some test shots for Christmas tree bokeh portraits I’d like to do!

It sure is cold outside here!  It’s funny how we live in an area with such extreme temperatures.  As in, this summer we experienced 103 degree heat (PLUS 99% humidity), and last night it got down to 20 degrees with a windchill of 6 degrees!  How is this even possible?  I think it’d be nice to live somewhere where it’s in the low 70’s and autumn all year ’round.  πŸ™‚

Anyway, our house is really big and expensive to heat (the old windows don’t help keep it any warmer), so, to stay warm, we’re spending most of our time in just one room of our house right now and using electric space heaters.  We are pretty cozy with our warm blankets and fuzzy socks.  I love sitting on our couch looking at our pretty Christmas tree while cuddling with Vera and/or Tad.

We went shopping yesterday and enjoyed being out in the hustle and bustle!  I didn’t have anything big to buy, so it was a fun, stress-free trip.  We also got our grocery shopping done while we were out.

All three of us have colds right now, and it’s so hard for me to see my little girl have a cold!  We’re praying that all three of us get better really quickly.

How about you all… is it cold where you are?

This has been an usually cold winter.. I think. And i dont even think its officially winter?

I remember going out when Taite was a week or so old and it was -4 πŸ™‚ that wasnt with wind either, that was THE TEMP haha… pretty darn cold.

If its any encouragement… when we 1st had Caleb we were so poor we couldnt afford to heat our home. We made less than you all πŸ™‚ – much less… and so we had to do the space heater thing. I remember mornings waking up to frost inside the house on glass… and seeing my breath as I rushed to the bathroom. Imagine how engorged boobs felt entering those temps! LOL!

But we did the space heater thing too… one room was warm.

Does Vera have a sleep sack? I remember those being nice for Caleb… kept in the heat really well.

    Also good fitting hats πŸ™‚

    Good bokeh btw!

Well, yes, it is cold πŸ™‚

Right now it’s around 12 F without the wind, and -2 F with the windchill. It was much much colder the last few days as well. Yuck!

I agree, let’s all move to a place where it’s a stable, warm temp all year round!

It’s freezing at our house too!
We have one room in the house that’s warmer than the others, so that’s where we are most of the time.

I would love me some cold weather over here in Chennai! Its 11:20am here and the temperature is 28*c. That is about 82F !!!!! and the humidity is 84% and so we’re sweating our socks off! ( um… we don’t wear socks. just light slippers or sandals!)

16 degrees in Richmond this a.m.! Everyone here has a cold, too. Family tend to share these things! Stay warm . . .

I bought an older house, and refused to heat it! It was so inefficient. So, everyone knew to come with turtlenecks and sweatshirts in the cold of Winter!

In our new(er) home, we keep the temp set at 55, and heat the rooms we use the most. The Family Room has propane logs that heat up the room quite nicely without using too much propane. On the other side of the house is our Living Room and our Master Bedroom, we have a wood-burning stove. A couple of logs, and that part of the house warms up nicely.

And of course, we have heating blankets on our bed. When we get home from work, we turn them on so we have a nice warm bed to get into every night.

So comfy…even when it’s so cold out. πŸ™‚
