Provision

November 14, 2011 by Aliesha

God has been providing for our family in some incredible ways lately!

We didn’t have hot water for eighteen days due to a leaky pipe under our house, but God provided a friend at church who came over and fixed it for us on Saturday!  We are grateful.

Another friend brought us a deer on Saturday!  Tad and I spent Saturday evening cutting it up and putting it in the freezer.  What provision!  Have any venison recipes to share with us?

I could list SO many more ways the Lord is taking care of us right now!  We have been blessed with unexpected monetary gifts as well as other specific items that we have prayed for.  We serve a faithful God!

Since my sister cooks venison a lot, I gave her your email so she could share some ideas. Praising the Lord with you!

My dad just killed two deer and last week brought us a huge bag full of ground meat and tenderloin. What a blessing for us as well! I won’t need to buy hamburger meat for some time. I have always eaten a lot of venison, and I usually just substitute it for beef in whatever I am cooking. My parents usually have the deer processed though and it is already ground. Don’t really have any specific recipes for deer meat.

I have several venison recipes….but if you want one that is super easy and keep your venison moist….then just put a roast or venison steaks into a slow-cooker, and put some water and an onion soup mix over top. It sounds too easy…but it soooo good πŸ™‚

We love eating venison at our house! Just a word of advice gleaned from experience: Soak your venison in salt water (two soaks is good) to pull out all the blood. That takes away any of that “game-y” flavor and leaves you with wonderful tasting meat! I usually soak mine right away in the fridge overnight until I have a chance to clean the meat up and separate it into various cuts. Then I soak in overnight once more (in fresh salt water) until I have an opportunity to can/freeze it. It’s fine if it soaks for a couple days until you have time to put it up. I highly recommend canned venison! It’s so easy to use, doesn’t take up space in your freezer and is super tender and tasty!
    Praise God for His provision!

    Venison Stroganoff:
Thinly slice as much venison as your family will eat (we like it meaty!)
Saute in 4 TBS butter along with diced onion, minced garlic, and mushrooms (if you like them)
Add 4 TBS flour to make a rue
While stirring, slowly add 2 c. beef broth and simmer until thickened.
Add 1/2 c. red cooking wine and continue simmering as long as desired (several hours is good to allow the flavors to really blend)
Just before serving at 1 c. sour cream and salt and pepper to taste.
Serve over egg noodles or rotini.
    Enjoy!

enjoy your deer πŸ™‚ – that is one thing I cant seem to get myself to eat. To many images of bambi in my head LOL. But enjoy! I do hear any kind of stew is good for deer meat.

Drea, the one thing you can’t get yourself to eat? Or one of the many things you can’t get yourself to eat?

LOL Tad! She didn’t say THE one thing… just that it is one thing that she can’t eat. I’m not a fan either.
